I leave the cover on my putter, fw's, and hybrid. If I have my R11 driver in the bag the cover stays on, but if I put my Adams driver in the cover is off.

If the course is open where the group can play fast I,ll leave them off.It really depends on my mood I guess.A lot of other times I'll leave them off too.The reason though is problely laziness more than anything else.But I find them a hassle. I always use the headcover on my putter though.
I don't have any cares or problems with what anybody else does with their headcovers or iron covers and IMO it's really none of my business or anyone elses what they choose to do with them.

Off, with my cart and bag setup they don't bang around enough to worry about. I may leave the driver cover on till I use it cause of the annoying tink,tink,tink, noise. but the covers for the hyb, & fw woods stay in the truck. I travel light.

when I first started 4 years ago with a crappy set of John Dalys. Never since then. Love my clubs to much even my irons stay covered
