Dumb Question of the Day: "Boring" Trajectory

Ok, so I'm always hearing the term "boring trajectory", most recently in the Srixon ad with Furyk describing why he switched balls (as if it wasn't for the cash, not that I have a problem with that, but I digress).

I've always assumed this term meant "average ho hum flight path, not too high, not too low". But it suddenly occurred to me that it may mean bore as in boring a hole. Similar to the idea of a piercing or penetrating trajectory that people talk about when describing the performance of longer clubs.

So... which is it?

I always thought it was a penetrating ball flight also. Similar to a "stinger". With these winds lately, I wish I could hit it on demand!

the 2nd part

The former.....as opposed to the latter!

ddec nailed it. It is supposed to cut through the wind and still create spin.

Well I've been off whenever I've read that term then.
I always thought it meant 'boring' as in the ball just went up, and down, travelled a good x-distance while not achieving anything too special in the y-direction.

Boring as in "to penetrate through something". Example - a wood boring beetle

Funny - I was kind of the other way around. The first time I heard "boring" I understood it like drilling / penetrating. The first time I saw it in writing, I thought "ha, boring, that could be confusing to some." So now, I use the term penetrating or piercing.

He is speaking of a penetrating ball flight or path. If you have optimum trajectory on your ball it will plane out, meaning you will get the most distance out of the shot. This depends a lot of factors but this ball in my opinion has tendency to get that flat plane you look for on well struck shot. I hit the yellow srixon and went a country mile. The one quality I loved was the ball flight, it was a boreing ball flight.

BTW..there are no dumb questions...if you don't ask you can't learn nothing....

Learn something new everyday. I always thought it was the mid trajectory description. Go up, not to high, not to low, drop, then roll. Nothing special but nothing terrible just boring.

Very informative, thanks all. Glad I'm not the only one that had this the wrong way around. I bet that 95% of people watching that Srixon ad will be thinking "zzz" boring, not "drill" boring. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png
