Default Swallowing my pride
Well folks, as much as I love my Mizuno MP-32s, today if became very clear to me that my swing is just not good enough to play well with them. I love the way they feel when I hit a solid shot with them, but I tend to not hit the ball very high with them, its difficult for me to him them consistently in terms of distance and I tend to hit a little hook with them.

So, today I ordered a set of MX-100s and I start taking lessons next week. As much as I love the look and feel of forged blades, shooting lower scores is more important to me.

Maybe at some point I will come back to a set of irons in the MP line, but for now being able to hit straighter, higher shots is more important than the feel and being able to work the ball.

I have a set of MX 100s. They are extremely easy to hit. I don't hit them too much as I really hook the 4H and 5H unless I compensate. The irons of the set are just fine and launch the ball up nice and high. Not sure you are swallowing your pride here. You should be proud you seem to making the right decision for your game. Hitting crappy golf shots is no fun. It's really hard to hit a terrible shot with the MX 100s, you'll enjoy them I bet.

Thanks. Like I said, I love my 32s but I also want to get better and I often feel like Id be better off with a more forigving iron. Today I had a horrible ballstriking day on the course and I finally decided that enough was enough. Its time for some more forgiving clubs and some lessons. I know that if I show up for a lesson with the MP-32s the teacher is going to tell me, "you might want to consider getting some more forgiving clubs" anyways.
I used to have a set of MX-15s and they were really easy to hit well. Im expecting the 100s will be very similar but a little bit better.

I personally think you made a wise decision and will enjoy golf better for it. Good luck with your lessons and let us know how they are going.

I applaud you on your decision and as Ole Gray said I think you will enjoy better golf because of it. I made the switch to Burner 2.0 irons from a forged cavity back blade and it was one of the best things I have done for my golf game. Like you said I am not penalized so much for my misses. It was eye opening the interview that JB posted with John Hoeflich where he mentioned the muscle back irons that pros play and reteif goosen returning to the tour truck to get some of the cavity back irons as he felt he joked 'he wasn't good enough to hit them.' That is amazing to come from a guy that has won 2 US Opens. With that said I think you have made a good decision and keep us posted on how the lessons and new irons go.

Great decision, with the technology in todays GI irons, there is often little reason to game forged blades IMHO. Shooting better scores is all that matters, there's no pics of your irons on the score card.

You made a wise decision. If you're struggling with your swing the last thing you should be hitting is the MP's. You have to be able to hit those things flush 90% of the time to make them playable. But awesome choice as well sticking with Mizuno!

Yeah, I faced that fact today. I can hit them OK when Im swinging the club well, but if Im off even a little bit it doesnt work. I was thinking today that I should be looking at some irons that I can be a little off with and still be OK.
About sticking with Mizunos: I love my Mizunos too much to switch to anything else. Even cast Mizzies are some of the sweetest irons around.

I just made the switch myself and through 3 rounds I'm already seeing a huge difference. Confidence is the key word. I hit my old blade 7i 150 and hit my new 9i 150 with a smoother swing. Also, my misses are still usually on the green instead of way off. Hopefully things work out as well for you.

Same here with Mizunos. I've played them for years now and i'm getting new ones in the next couple weeks as well. They know what they are doing with irons.

They arent too shabby when it comes to drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and wedges either.

Are you keepin' the MP-32's as an extra set (for the future), or are you gonna be selling them?

This was a mature and smart decision. Pride won't come from what's in your bag, your pride and confidence will come from the improvement on your score card. Go get 'em Bucky.

Good call Bucky, I'm right there with you. It's time I realize maybe I'm not as good as I think.

Not swallowing pride all. I did the same thing when I thought I could hit blades for a brief moment. Glad I self-corrected.
