Default What is the farthest you'll drive in a single day for just a round of golf?
If you are doing nothing else, just getting up, driving, playing golf, driving back home, what is your maximum travel radius for a round of golf?

There are so many courses within a few hours of here that I'd love to play, but the thought of driving a few hours, playing 18, then driving back home again just isn't quite worth it. I'm thinking 2 hours would be my absolute maximum. At that point you figure 2 hours there, warm up and play takes at least 4-5 hours, another 2 hours drive back and you've spent at least 9 hours of the day. Not sure my wife would like me doing that very often.

For just a regular weekend round I try to keep it under an hour (which might just be the other side of town - stupid giant spread out city that it is).

We have so many good courses to choose from in north Texas so with that said; I would say 45 minutes each way (unless it was a special occasion/event).

When I lived in Cali,my drive was up to 2 hrs one way to play.We wanted to play many different courses and found a few we would repeat often. Now, that I live in AZ, i refuse to drive more then 45 mins. Pls don't ask why,I really don't know. It could be ,I just haven't found the right people to play with out here.

Depends on the quality of the course, but I would say 2 hours would be my limit, it'd be hard to justify spending more time driving than playing.

I have a really good friend who lives in Omaha which is 3 hours south of me. There has been many times that I'll drive down there to play golf and turn around and come home afterwards. I wouldn't go that far if I wasn't able to see an old friend as well as play golf though. Normally I'll make it an overnight and hang around a while, sometimes play 2 rounds. Plus Omaha usually gets their golf season started a few weeks before us so that also entices me to do it.

I think it would depend with whom I was hitting the course with but as an average I would say an hour.

I have done three hours but only for a special day with special friends. More than that and I'd try real hard to make it an overnight with two days of golf.

Probably around 2 hours, but I agree with lcsmrtn it definitely depends on the course quality.

I usually limit myself to 45 mins. After that I just feels like it takes too much time to get there.

About an hour each way. However, I'm traveling 3 hours each way to get fitted by a master club fitter...

I would say 45 minutes, unless it is something special.

An hour each way for just me to play.

That said, the people I am playing with (and not the course quality) could get me to drive 3+ hours one way.
I mean, getting to play a round with an old friend or meet a new THPer would certainly be worth a long drive, even to a crappy course. I think I did ~4 hours last year to catch a round with Hawk (when I lived in WI) and it was worth every second of the trip. One of the most enjoyable rounds I played last year.

I've driven an hour or so to play with MO_Hacker on a semi regular basis. I have gone a couple hours to play before, but that's not normal at all. Usually I like to play courses with a half hour to 45 minutes from me.

I've driven 4+ hours to play Firestone CC, but was able to stay over at the course. But given the choice I would drive both ways in one day - it was that special (I don't get to play a lot of tour-caliber courses). Heck, I'd probably hitchhike there and back if that's what it took.

My home course is 50 miles away, but living in the city there are very few options and none are that appealing (except for the ultra private tracks which are out of my price range), so I was usually driving 40 minutes to an hour each way regardless.

My longest day trip was 2 1/2 hours each way but I would do up to 3 hours if need be - I don't mind driving to play a quality course.
