I'm a ready golfer and rarely mark unless someone needs me to or I need to clean my ball. While I appreciate keeping play moving, sometimes those 4 footers someone wants me to "just tap in" are a little unnerving and I'd rather take a little time and make the putt. I also don't care about who goes first on/around the green. If you're ready to putt, putt; I don't care who's away. |

Sounds like ready play is the norm. I mark when its not my turn and theres time. Alot of times Ill put my putter down where the ball is, pick up the ball, wipe it off put it back down and look for the line. Keep moving
I have always thought that, after I putt it's still my turn to putt out or mark. And I will only mark if the ball is on anothers line or close. I prefer when they say. dont worry bout it. |

I have a group play with on Saturdays and they never mark their balls unless they are in or near someones line... or they will mark to pick up and re-align... and typically they will go ahead and finish up if they are within a foot or so after 1st putt... All in all, the time spent on the green is a lot less.
My Sunday group ALWAYS marks their balls regardless of location on the green and will on finish up if its a couple of inches... All in all, they spend ALOT of time on the green... Do you guys/girls have a problem with not marking if its not in the way or immediate line of sight? it doesn't matter to me either way but I was just curious what kind of "rules" you all play by. |

In stroke play the rules don't require you to mark even if you are asked to. You always have the option of putting out. It isn't practical though if you would be standing in someone else's line in doing so. I will usually putt out if I'm within 3-4 feet after the first putt, but it just depends on who I'm playing with and where their lines are in relation to my ball, etc.
I'm a believer in playing ready golf, and continuous putting is just one aspect of that. ![]() |

I don't care if you mark your ball or not if it's not near my line of putting. I'm not going to mark mine either unless it's going to bother you. Sometimes I'll even just rotate the ball to get my alignment mark the way I want it without marking it! (Don't tell! hahaha) ![]() |

Even if i'm about to tee off and I can't see you or hear you, please don't walk back to the cart cuz you decided to switch clubs. I guess it goes back to my days working as a caddie, no matter who is swinging, I'll stop and watch. For safety and to help find the ball later I guess. |

The etiquette I do care about is, don't walk in/stand in my line; don't talk while I'm putting; and fix your damn divots! Oh and if you're closest to the hole, pull the darn pin (this is for my wife who never seems to remember that she has the ability to take the flag out ![]() |
