I say just putt and move on. Unless asked to mark it or if I am in someones line, I don't waste time marking the ball.

We play ready golf. If the ball is in someones line I mark it or if I need to clean it I mark it otherwise I leave it where it is.

I'm a ready golfer and rarely mark unless someone needs me to or I need to clean my ball. While I appreciate keeping play moving, sometimes those 4 footers someone wants me to "just tap in" are a little unnerving and I'd rather take a little time and make the putt. I also don't care about who goes first on/around the green. If you're ready to putt, putt; I don't care who's away.

The etiquette I do care about is, don't walk in/stand in my line; don't talk while I'm putting; and fix your damn divots! Oh and if you're closest to the hole, pull the darn pin (this is for my wife who never seems to remember that she has the ability to take the flag out ).
and 1st one to hole out is responsible for putting the pin back in, can't stand when i hole out and i see 3 guys walking off the green and the pin is still on the ground.

It doesnt bother me as long as they are not near anyones line. Sometimes we play ready golf. I guess it depends on where and who.

I always mark and realign very quickly and then putt. This is unless I'm in someone's way.

Sounds like ready play is the norm. I mark when its not my turn and theres time. Alot of times Ill put my putter down where the ball is, pick up the ball, wipe it off put it back down and look for the line. Keep moving
I have always thought that, after I putt it's still my turn to putt out or mark. And I will only mark if the ball is on anothers line or close. I prefer when they say. dont worry bout it.

I've always marked my ball when I'm on the green, but not everyone in my group does. It's more of a habit for me. If I'm playing bad, I'll just leave it there and putt without reading my line. Most of the time, I mark it unless it's my turn, but I'm not a slow golfer either.

Default Green ettiquite...
I have a group play with on Saturdays and they never mark their balls unless they are in or near someones line... or they will mark to pick up and re-align... and typically they will go ahead and finish up if they are within a foot or so after 1st putt... All in all, the time spent on the green is a lot less.

My Sunday group ALWAYS marks their balls regardless of location on the green and will on finish up if its a couple of inches... All in all, they spend ALOT of time on the green...

Do you guys/girls have a problem with not marking if its not in the way or immediate line of sight?

it doesn't matter to me either way but I was just curious what kind of "rules" you all play by.

It all depends on who I am playing with.

I don't care if you mark your ball or not if it's not near my line of putting. I'm not going to mark mine either unless it's going to bother you. Sometimes I'll even just rotate the ball to get my alignment mark the way I want it without marking it! (Don't tell! hahaha)

In stroke play the rules don't require you to mark even if you are asked to. You always have the option of putting out. It isn't practical though if you would be standing in someone else's line in doing so. I will usually putt out if I'm within 3-4 feet after the first putt, but it just depends on who I'm playing with and where their lines are in relation to my ball, etc.

I'm a believer in playing ready golf, and continuous putting is just one aspect of that.

I do this too!! I mark my ball, pick it up and clean it and then put it back and remove my marker I've been asked to use another ball marker because mine have too much shine on them...whoo boy look out when the sun shines on them (its my technique haa haa).

My regular group plays ready golf. We don't believe in honors if you walk onto the tee box first, you tee off first. As for the greens, unless it's in your way generally no marking is being done. We're all serious golfers but we're casual about ettiquette (and spelling).
The one thing that bugs me, and I don't know why, is when a guy is walking when a shot is being made. Even if i'm about to tee off and I can't see you or hear you, please don't walk back to the cart cuz you decided to switch clubs. I guess it goes back to my days working as a caddie, no matter who is swinging, I'll stop and watch. For safety and to help find the ball later I guess.

I'm all for ready golf and if it's not my putt, I mark my ball. If my putt is within tap in range, I ask if it's ok to finish up then hopefully knock it in to keep the game moving. I'm not a big fan of slow play.

I also like to play ready golf. I will mark my ball if some one asks me to but it's always a good idea to keep the game moving not to say I rush around the coarse just don't slow up play to much.

Ready golf is the way I play. It takes long enough to get around the park somedays.

With my dad neither of us care so we play pretty fast. With friends it depends on if it is serious or not. Lastly, during chool matches I usually try to be as polite as possible and mark it most of the time.

I only mark my ball if someone asks. Unless of course I'm playing with my son. He has the aim of a shotgun loaded with buckshot from 60 yards... No tellin' where he might go. If I'm by myself, I don't usually mark unless I'm feeling particularly anal that day.
