Default JB and TC will like this Par 5
So I went to a wedding in Winston Salem, NC on saturday and played the Championship Course of Tanglewood Park, this is a Robert Trent Jones Course and you could tell because it had 106 bunkers on it. Needless to say I quickly learned how to play out of bunkers. So I get to the 17th hole which is a par 5. it read 540 yards and you could not see the landing area. Just aim for the middle and hope it goes straight. I took out my driver and bombed away straight down the fairway. All I can think about is JB and TC talking about playing to a number, so I say....I am going to play to a number depending on how far out I am. Upon arriving to my ball I see I am 225 yards out but more importantly I see this......

Its prob a little difficult for you to see because I took this pic with my phone and said JB and TC are gonna love this...from 100 yards in it was NOTHING BUT BUNKERS!!!.....6 Bunkers surrounded this green so I was thinking, man if I lay up like my some guys/girls on this site talk about then I still have to deal with these bunkers. So I decided to hit my hybrid 3, I choked down on it and fired away. I ended up in the bunker on the right side of the green, pin high. I got out of the bunker and 2 putted for a par. Needless to say, I sure was pretty happy with this outcome. Check out the link to the course and do the virtual tour of the course....it is hole 17.

I would have cried when I saw that green. Well not literally but I would have known for sure no matter what I did I would be in one of those nasty bunkers. Golf is hard enough why torture us like that! It does look like a beautiful course, though, congrats on making par on that hole.

The worst bunker course I have ever played in my life was the George Fazio down at Hilton Head. I swear that thing had bunkers at every single point you would hit to for all tee boxes. Greens 4 sided with bunkers and traps 5 feet deep. Sounds like this one is about the same but I've played Bermuda Run a few years ago and I know how nice those courses are around there. I'm sure it was a fun time.

Wow 106! That is a lot. A couple weekends ago the course I played had 120!!! I was only in 4 of them I think. And I agree with One-T... I always go for it.

i would probably go for it more often if i was as long as you two off the tee, but wedges are my strong suit.

I think those bunkers would have made me lay up... I would probably play to 120 and take full PW.

Nice looking course though! Seems like they do a good job maintaning it!

Oh, I had already done the layup thing on another Par 5...I hit the green in reg, but I 3 putted....dang it!!! so really other than the 3 putt, the outcome was still the same. I think I was in 15 of those bunkers all day. None of them were fairway bunkers and I ended up on the green from all of them. I was soo happy with that outcome because I never get to practice out of bunkers. GG, I will say I stood there in awwww (as in awww sh*$ ) what do I do next....hahaha

I don't think i would have had the guts to go for it. I would probably have laid up and then short ironed it in...to one of the bunkers...haha

I don't practice enough out of bunkers either and I have the hardest time getting out of them. Our home course has a ton of bunkers and I get more sand in my hair, mouth, and down my shirt than I get behind the ball to get me out of the bunker. I jump up and down like a giddy school girl everytime I get out of a bunker on the first try.

I would have probably grabbed the hybrid out of the bag and fired away like you did. If I were to lay up I would have probably hit the closest bunker and end up in every one of them after that before making it to the green.
