Q-School: Final Stage

Troy Merritt is currently leading in the second round of the final stage. Other notables currently in the top 25:

Jeff Maggert (T3)
Rickie Fowler (T20)

David Duval is currently T31. Jesper Parnevik is T52.

I'm still shocked that Jamie Lovemark didn't advance to the final round.

igs00r 03-12-2009 09:55 PM

I'm hoping Duval can pull it out

that is the one that shocked me as well. I figured he would do quite well.

Agreed. I certainly was shocked, particularly considering he had so much more of a controlled-swing as compared to his rookie counterpart who got most of the press time during the fall series.

Anyone here following any particular players? I'm tracking the below

Former Oklahoma Sooner players: Hunter Haas, Todd Hamilton, Glenn Day
Former TCU players: Adam Meyer, JJ Killeen
Former #1 Player: Duval
Pure Curiosity: Rickie Fowler, Matt Weibring, Parnevik, Colt Knost

Rooting for Hugo Leon of Big Break Michigan, the most talented Big Breaker I've ever seen including Nitties. Hugo makes flocks of birdies but needs to calm his admitted anxiety attacks and avoid the late tournament stumbles. He's notorious for quick starts then a steady decline. But a guy with that much talent could really be a force if he got settled on Tour.

Hugo had it to -4 for the day and -2 for the event today, inside the top 15, then suffered a late double bogey to finish even par after two rounds.

Out of simple interest I am following Rickie, Jesper and Duval. The one player that I would have had a significant interest in is not playing. Brad Benjamin, a top-Illinois hacker, was intending to "turn pro" for Q-School this year, but he won the United States Amateur Public Links Championship this year. That qualifies him as an amateur for the Masters. Not a tough decision!

Third Round is suspended due to bad weather, but Duval was able to get off to a fast start and was 2 under through 5 before the suspension of play. Rickie Fowler started even better... 2 under through 2. He is currently tied for 13th.

Wow! Maybe this kid is as good as they say. Rickie Fowler is on the top of the leaderboard now, shooting 9 under through 11 so far.

With what the equipment and apparel companies threw at him, I hope so. He looks like the real deal.

I'm watching Fowler.

And now Parnevik because I liked his Tiger comments. I like that he spoke his mind (when most won't about this) and that he did it in a humorous way.

Today required quite an adjustment in attitude. After the early rain the conditions softened up and even par rounds were lapped. Four guys started T31, shot even par, and now are T61.

I liked that Tommy Gainey got back into it. He started in 147th place after 75-77 but opened birdie/birdie/eagle and got to -10 on the round before finishing with a 63 for T61.

Another rooting interest is Andrew Buckle, a talented but erratic player I followed at the Miami Nationwide event. Buckle is hanging around the Top 25 barrier but really hurt himself late Thursday when he went triple bogey/bogey.

After a 73 today with a late double bogey, Hugo Leon needs a very low round otherwise he's battling for fully exempt Nationwide status.

Similar to Harry, I've added Jesper to my rooting list after the blunt and valid summary of Tiger. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...lies/clapp.gif

Dave Schultz is local guy I'm hoping for. t36 right now.

Saturday round rained out.

Duval is likely toast. Is 7 over today through the holes he was able to finish before game was suspended. He is now T111. He would have to go very low to hit top 25.

Below are the 25 lucky players who secured their PGA Tour card. There were some happy stories, such as Shane Bertsch, who on the last day, moved from 50th to 15th.

There were also some sad stories. Tom Pernice needed only a bogey on the last whole to secure his card. He hit in the water and made double bogey.

Of course, there were also some major champions who didn't make the top 25, such as David Duval, Todd Hamilton and Shaun Micheel.

Troy Merritt -22
2 Jeff Maggert -21
3 Matt Jones -19
4 Martin Flores -18
T5 Neal Lancaster -17
T5 Brendon de Jonge -17
7 Billy Horschel -16
T8 David Lutterus -15
T8 J.P. Hayes -15
T8 Graham Delaet -15
11 Jay Williamson -14
T12 Chris Wilson -12
T12 Brenden Pappas -12
T12 Kris Blanks -12
T15 Omar Uresti -11
T15 Rickie Fowler -11
T15 Shane Bertsch -11
T15 Joe Ogilvie -11
T19 Brian Stuard -10
T19 Cameron Tringale -10
T19 Michael Connell -10
T19 Chris Riley -10
T23 Spencer Levin -9
T23 Brent Delahoussaye -9
T23 Andrew McLardy -9
