Language Lesson

Little girls wear skorts - those weird things that are half shorts, half skirts. Adult women wear golf skirts. Say it with me - ok - golf skirts. I'm going to wear a golf skirt tomorrow when I play. Just forget that other word from now on.

rengerts 08-23-2009 05:38 AM

No way. We like the term skorts because they are not just for golf if you get the right kind.

AlexBolduin 08-23-2009 05:38 AM

Skort. Gotcha http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/thumbsup.gif

JRixlcvF 08-23-2009 05:39 AM

I'm sorry - it sounds dirty when you say it out loud. Golf skirt sounds much nicer.

My wife usually wears tennis skirts/skorts. What's the call on those? I like them, they seem shorter.

Tennis skorts seem shorter to me too. They also seem a little more "flippy" than golf skorts.

Skorts have built in compression shorts. Skirts do not. That's why the clothing companies and stores don't call them skirts.

Calling skorts "skirts" is like calling swim trunks (with built in mesh underwear) "shorts."

I think Harry just ended this discussion.

We need to see GIGI in a pair of skorts!

Sanremogirl 08-23-2009 07:29 PM

Thanks Harry
You've documented this thread exquisitly..sould put an end to any misconceptions about skorts..well done..anyway golf skirts is too many words when one sums it up

mXr8icOB 08-23-2009 07:34 PM

Great examples Harry. The technical term used in the fashion industry is skort. It is a skirt that has shorts attached to it, therefore, skort. It's like the spork, part spoon part fork....spork.

The reference to built-in compression shorts is throwing me off. I always remember skorts looking like a skirt in the front, but shorts from the back.

Have they changed the design now? http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...bulgy-eyes.png

Yes, they have. I remember when I was a kid owning 'skorts' where it looked just like you described with the skirt look in the front and the shorts look in the back. The skorts of today are SO much better. They have shorts underneath so if the wind blows or you squat down to read the green you don't have to worry about showing off 'the goodies'. But from the exterior they look like a normal, pretty, skirt.

GaxyGroordrep 08-23-2009 07:41 PM

Ahh...that explains my confusion. I like the sound of how the new design looks better. Hell, I've probably seen several of them and not even known it since the shorts are hidden.

Almost all (if not all) golf 'skirts' that you see are actually skorts and have the shorts underneath. Everything I have ever reviewed and any skort I have ever purchased has ad the shorts underneath. I couldn't imagine playing without having the shorts. I am sure the cool breeze would feel good but I would be worried every time I had to bend over to pick up my ball http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...ies/beauty.png

Think again - StLCardsFan. You don't know me well, but trust me Harry doesn't get the last word on this. GOLF SKIRT.

In my day we called 'em koulots. Koulots for the ladies, and an onion on the belt for the men were the styles of the time.

A skort by any other name would still look pretty, call em Fred for all I care. I like them better than shorts and they allow for more privacy than skirts which I don't necessarily like, but am willing to live with.

I love this. Photobucket removed my photo of Paula Creamer showing that there are compression shorts in skorts to keep people from seeing things that shouldn't be seen. Ironic much?

I'm going to re-upload it and see what happens:
