Did I do something wrong here?!

Ok I was out for a quick 18 this evening with a power cart. Sailed through 9 holes with no one on the nine. Then I head over to do my 2nd nine (27 hole course) because I have a match play match on these particilar holes on monday. As I finish my first hole on the second nine I notice a group of two (father & son)ahead of me 2 holes playing & looking for balls in the nearby pond. I finally caught up to them on the par 5 5th hole ....... and proceeded to wait on the tee while they were looking for their ball lost in out of bounds. Once they came close to the green I hit my tee shot.... then waited for them to clear the green then I hit my second shot. As I approached my thrid shot with my cart they come up to me with their cart and the father starts giving my flax because I am playing behind him and the course is empty.http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo.../bickering.gif. I just said I was sorry I didn't realise that playing behind you bothered you! And that I would go play some other holes...... He said that he was going to play the hole over again and I now didn't have them in his way!http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...ies/angry2.gif

Am I missing something here? Did I breach some sort of ettiquet here or is this guy just a real jerk?http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo.../confused2.gif

It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong at all, that guy was just being an ass. That is uncalled for.

DoctorTDent 07-19-2009 04:14 AM

Perhaps you should have played through them while they were looking for the OB ball, but how could you have known. Or the father was just in a bad mood. If your were crowding them, maybe, but it sounds more like the father was not having a good day, or wanting to show off in front othe younger person. You handled the situation pretty well. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...lies/clapp.gif

ketNavatutt 07-19-2009 04:14 AM

It does not sound like you were in the wrong unless you hit into them which it said you didnt. Dont sweat it.

Bymnbypeten 07-19-2009 04:27 AM

I think the guy is just a real jerk ..... Im going to ask people at the club about him.

What I don't get about the situation was that he really wasn't in a hurry to play golf because he was fishing for ball two holes previously. He had a chance to let me play through on the 5th tee or while they were looking for ball on the 5th hole..... I' d be out of there way in about 5 mins if they let me through.

joeyCanada 07-19-2009 04:31 AM

And they wonder how fights get started out on the golf course, I probably would have told the guy to pound sand up his a$$.

Jimmy - There are days when I say golf would be so much more fun without the other golfers on the course. I have no idea what happens to people out there. Forget about this guy - let it go and move on. You may never see him again and if you do, who knows - he may be in a better mood.

DoctorTDent 07-19-2009 04:35 AM

There has been a few times that I just played through a slow group with out waiting to be asked. I just tell them I am doing it, and it usually goes well. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...s/computer.gif (This of course if I have some place to go in front of them.)

Diane I'm sure I'll run into him again..... this is the fourth time I've seen him this year and the second time I've played behind him.

If you play the same course 5 times a week you tend to run into the same people once in a while.

TZids16I 07-19-2009 04:39 AM

Jimmy - You need to find out his name and book a tee time before his. That way, you'll be in front of him.

Diane I usually start my round at 6:00 ish each time I come out.... the odd time I will play sunday morning. Maybe I should tell him what time i'm out on the course ........ so he knows!

I have done that a couple of times myself. If it's clear sailing ahead & for whatever reason the slow group doesn't ask if you want to play thru.

Speaking of playing thru, has anyone ever dealt with the group that plays incredibly slow except when they finish putting & see you standing there waiting to make your approach shot. They will then hurry up to the next hole & tee off as fast as they can before you get there. Usually they are just climbing in their carts as you come walking up. They don't even look back as they hurry up down the fairway, & then they go back into their turtle routine.

They play like they don't notice you there playing behind them..... it's funny because it's so true!

Don't sweat it you did right. If this type of thing happens again let the pro shop staff know. This is something that the club should deal with and get you out of the situation. There are a number of people on the golf course these days that have no idea how to behave and the shop staff should be the ones to help educate these individuals.

Hlennisal 07-20-2009 04:09 AM

The guys a real jerk. And sounds like everyone here agrees.

masteryxisman 07-20-2009 05:13 AM

Had an old lady light into me once because she and her husband and another couple were playing slow and had to let my twosome through after letting another twosome through on the 1st hole. She was mad at me because I wasn't playing in a foursome??? http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo.../confused2.gif

I just laughed it off, but I thought she was totally ignorant of the etiquette of the game. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/fo...es/biggrin.png

She wasn't though. It's polite to let a faster group go though, but conventional etiquette says the foursome has more of a right out there.

He didn't say how far behind them he was when they started, just that they let a twosome go by on the first hole. This might not have happened until further into the round.
