Default Golf Course Pet Peeves
Here are my top 5 golf course pet peeves:

5. Broken tees and tees not picked up on the tee box.

4. Not replacing divots.

3. Playing from wrong tee box for one's ability.

2. Slow play.

1. People with cell phones that are not on vibrate.

I love people that leave free tees for me. Broken for par 3s, unbroken for par 4s and 5s.

I've even found Brush Tees, Epoch, and Zero Friction tees.

When someone holes out their putt and leaves the ball in the cup while there are still others to hole out. That drives me NUTS!!!

5. When my ball lands in the footprint of someone that didn't properly rake the bunker

4. Not replacing divots

3. Knocking my ball back to me when I hit a putt somewhat close to the hole without asking me. Golden rule: Never mess with another man's balls!

2. Not repairing ball marks

1. Slow Play

  • No ball washer - C'mon, they're cheap in the grand scheme of things, just put one on every stinkin' hole.
  • Empty/dry ball washer - no excuse for this ever
  • Drinking water - needs to be at every hole, or at the very least, every other hole. This is Texas, it's hot.
  • 'Natural' rough areas. Going from fairway, to first cut to 2' tall crap just isn't right, it's sloppy groundskeeping. I'm not talking about course boundaries, or out of bounds areas, I'm talking about strips between parallel holes. It's an added bonus, when they pile brush in these areas. Tacky.
  • Rocks in the bunkers

-Dead rough. I can't stand missing the fairway by like 5 feet just to be hitting off of dirt, roots, etc.
-Slow play
-Drinking water...need em on every hole.
-People who scream "FORE!" even though it's not even close... :P

  • People who don't rake the sand.
  • People who talk incessantly on the course.
  • People who wear jeans (Fourputt - calm down - I'm kidding - sort of)
  • People who come into my fairway to hit their ball without waiting to see if I've hit.
  • People who don't know when it's their turn to hit the ball or they're talking on their cell and are distracted.

I agree to a certain extent, but I've been hit 3 times and none of the people yelled "Fore". One even had the nerve to ask how far I think his ball would have gone if my arm hadn't gotten in the way.

My response, "That depends. How far up your a** will my foot go when I kick the ball there?"

- slow play
- people who don't repair ball marks
- people who don't fix their divots (and complain when they land in one)
- people who don't play ready golf
- the guy who talks non stop (including your backswing) for 18 holes

other than that - I love this game !!

People who wait for the green to clear from 250 yards, who can't even hit their driver that far. Golf courses that allow chemicals, and other debris to run into water ways of the U.S. that will eventually empty into someones water supply.

Seagulls do that on the beach, but I've never seen that on the course. Where is your lunch when they steal it?

Well...obviously if it's close I want them to yell fore. But you end up looking like an idiot covering your head and w/e, just to see the ball hit 90 yards away. :\

They hang around the tenth fairway/green on ocean courses, when you go off to hit, they fly to your cart and steal your food.

Crows do it up here. Cart, open bag pocket if you wander too far. They're sneaky buggers and they work in teams.

I'm pretty easy going for the most part, I only have a few pet peeves..

-Talking on the Cell Phone
-I'm good with slow play, but what irritates me is when they're playing slow and make no visible efforts to pick up the pace (ie: 5 minutes looking for a lost ball, taking 10 minutes to analzye a shot from the fairway, etc..)
-People who don't offer to let you play through

Crazy. That would get to me after a while too. Crow stew anyone??

I guess my only Pet Peeve on the course is slow play. I don't mind the occasional hole that you 3 or 4 putt but when it's constant and you are the problem that's when it bothers me. People on their cell phones is starting to get to me. When I was out last week I was playing behind a father and 2 sons. They were playing EXTREMELY slow. I wasn't in a hurry and was enjoying the company I was with so it wasn't that bad. But we were playing #8 and him and his sons were on the box of #9 for a while. There was a total of 4 of us in my group. So we get to the green and all putt. The 2 boys had tee'd off on 9. Dad is yacking on his cell phone. He had been on it the whole time we were putting. He realized that he was holding up play so he frantically tried to decide if he wanted to hit his shot while still on the phone, hang up the phone, hand it to someone else while he hit, or who knows what else. He decided to hang up. I was going to make the decision for him if he didn't hurry up and decide.

Didn't think oceans would be a big problem in KS and only on the 10th - hmmm.
