What is the significance of a trishul?

I have seen many times Indian God and Goddesses having a three way knife (Trishul) in their hand what that mean? Specially in hands of Lord Shiva.

Well Trishul is a kind of weapon which have three face and resembles the power, lord Shiva know for his trishul, damru and snakes. Hindu god and goddesses are having different kind of weapon. Arrow, Gadda, Chakra, and Trishul etc. these are to kill the bad powers.

Yes, there is not any specific reason behind having trishul in hands, every god have some special thing in his hands and in order of this many have trishul. But only Shiva and Durga’s trishul was famous because they kill many bad powers with their trishul.

It is not just a weapon or trishul it’s a symbol of win of truth over lies, good power over bad power. It’s the symbol of power that god or goddesses have.
