I love the sheer insanity of this show. I love how it just has the guts to jump off cliffs without looking back, yet can still be poignant and relevant. I'm dying for season 6.

PlayboyAtWork 07-27-2010 07:39 PM

jesus, it seems like i've been waiting a million years for the new season. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif [/hyperbole]

I just read the other day that agrestic is a real word. It means unpolished, awkward, crude.

I haven't really liked it the last couple seasons. I hope my opinion will change. I think the did some outrageous things for the dramatic impact, then the next season/episode were like "oh shit. Now we have to make a plot around that." And those plots sucked. So they'd do something even more outrageous, which led to shitty plots, etc.

Trailer! Yay! Pretty hyped up!

i should be enjoying this hardcore, but i am too concerned having read that elizabeth perkins left the show. what? what is weeds supposed to be without Celia? worst news.

doctorzlo 07-27-2010 10:18 PM

She will be on for another season, as far as I've gathered. This will be her last.

PlayboyAtWork 07-27-2010 11:16 PM

that's what i initially thought too, sir. but apparently, she's already gone. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif i wonder how they'll tie up her plots?

doctorzlo 07-27-2010 11:29 PM

Aw, for fuck's sake.

PlayboyAtWork 08-18-2010 03:49 AM

soooo what did we think of the premiere? i enjoyed it!

the banter between nancy, andy, audra, and the 'lifer was quite funny. and shane, creepy as he is, somehow managed to be more tolerable than usual. that look he shot nancy from the backseat in the final scene made me lol. i think it's off to a good start. it's just so frustrating how Weeds is only half an hour. i'm so used to True Blood and other hour-long shows, it just feels like things are getting started when the credits roll.

anolbom 08-18-2010 07:43 AM

I wasn't too crazy about the episode. I don't always like when a cliff hanger picks up immediately from where it left off. The show's been off the air for 9 months and the story has moved ahead by about 9 hours. I know it's hard to skip forward only to do flashbacks and stuff, but I wasn't into watching them literally pack the cars.

But we'll see what episode 2 brings, if it moves the story forward in a good way. I want Doug! And Dean!

My favorite part was when Nancy said to Andy "My kid killed someone," and he said "Who did Shane kill." "How did you know it was Shane?"

pobrierce 08-20-2010 03:29 AM

I really liked it - yeah, it didn't reveal much but that is hard to do considering the story-line and the half hour length. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
@ Darwin, yeah that "banter" was pretty hilarious, lol! And I wish the eps were an hour as well. Half an hour just isn't long enough, especially when the story gets
complex-ish like this.
@ Scarlet, That part was funny, too, especially the look on Nancy's face when Andy said "Who did Shane kill?", like she knew why Andy suspected him but didn't want to admit how creepy her son is, lol! And yes, bring on the Dean & Doug show, they are always good for some killer LULZ!

doctorzlo 08-26-2010 06:05 AM

I'm starting to doubt whether the Botwins aka the Newmans are enough to lead this show.

anolbom 08-26-2010 09:05 AM

They need to skip forward weeks or months or something. This is just so, so boring. The only watchable parts are Andy, Andy, Andy. Oh, and Andy. Randy Newman, lol. Since the seasons are so short, it's not like "oh suffer through this and it'll get good in a month or two." In a month or two it's OVER. Maybe Nancy, er... Nathalie, can marry a Fed to help her get out of this mess. Oh wait, she did that. Maybe marry a politician or a bigger drug dealer. oh, she did that too.

I could get past the ridiculousness if it was written well. It's so not.

Have them go find Halia and Conrad and hide out with them. That would be awesome.

pobrierce 08-26-2010 11:57 AM

I think the family on the run thing is actually kind of funny, I mean, at least it has its moments, anyway. Loved the whole "Chinaman" bit with the Hooters gift cards, lol! If they continue with this, though, it will be very boring so they definitely need to have something happen ASAP. And I agree, it would be awesome if they found Halia & Conrad, but unfortunately that would probably never happen.

investor 08-26-2010 04:10 PM

I thought it was a really solid, funny episode. I am excited and looking forward to the next.

doctorzlo 09-09-2010 02:33 AM

I watched the leaked Pre-Air episode. It was quite good. Shane's creeping me out, I'm curious to see how they develop him. Excited for the new season!

fluoxet 09-09-2010 02:34 AM

I really need to catch up with Weeds. I only have seasons 1-3 on DVD.

leacturavar 10-08-2010 12:28 PM

Just watched the Season premiere- pretty excited to see where they go from here!

mr.calisto 11-08-2010 05:39 PM

I wish I hadn't read that the season premiere had leaked. Ever since I've had a cable company that lets me order Showtime a la carte (it's like $10, so I say, "would I pay $2.25 to watch Weeds once a week for a month?" and the answer is always "yes"), I've done it, and I really enjoy watching it when it comes on. I like having a TV schedule. I think I can hold out for 5 days, especially since I'm rewatching Season 5 on Netflix. I understand what other people mean when they say they don't like where the show has gone since Season 3, but I have to disagree. First of all, I love the structure (part of the reason I prefer to watch it on TV - I think it almost has to be watched for the first time with a lag between episodes). Every week, you're left going, "What the fuck?!" and/or "How is she going to get out of this?" but in the end, of course, she always does. It also pleases me that Nancy seems actually to derive fulfillment and a sense of self from dealing, which is rarely true of drug dealing movies/TV. And I like that Jenji Kohan could actually burn the setting to the ground (or, in this season's case, have the main characters flee) and kind of start over with a whole new show - except with the same characters we already love. Part of me agrees, "Yeah, it has gotten kind of over the top," but when I watch the first two seasons over again, I realize that they were also a little cartoon-y and appreciate that it's darker now; as much as I liked 1-2, I really love the darkness they added in late in Season 4 and throughout Season 5. And I thought Season 3 was amazing. Who doesn't like Season 3?!

(Full disclosure: I wrote my master's thesis about drug dealing narratives - mostly The Wire and Weeds, so I'm biased on this point.)

doctorzlo 11-08-2010 06:31 PM

I hope that with Perkins leaving we won't be losing Allie Grant as well. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif

zzbust 11-08-2010 06:48 PM

Perkins leaving is complete news to me and I'm crushed. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif
