the reason she pretended it was a practical joke (just like sean did earlier in the episode) was to protect him. the idea of cathy having cancer really cut to the core of sean and he was falling apart. the whole reason she hasn't told anyone yet is because she doesn't want to cause pain. so even though it's selfish on one hand, on the other hand it's generous. |

The premiere was great! Honestly I thought the premise was a bit too familiar, but it's executed incredibly well. And Laura Linney is lovely as always (I agree that she can start practicing her acceptance speeches, but it's a bit sad that we can already see that coming.) I hope the writing keeps up.
