The end of tonight's show really got me. *wipes face*

Obgrfbke 02-12-2010 03:26 AM

I kind of gave up on this show after about 6 episodes. The cast are good, the jokes and dialogue are pretty good, but I just don't care. I don't really like any of the characters other than the one played by Gabourey Sidibe, who is the best thing about the show IMHO.

HonestSean 03-11-2010 05:45 PM

I think Laura Linney is the best thing about the show. Has me in tears nearly every week. The only character I'm not keen on is her brother. I've really enjoyed it overall and hope there's going to be a second series.

ufUUZCnc 03-11-2010 11:24 PM

^Second series already confirmed.

Buhoutsoupfap 03-11-2010 11:42 PM

I don't know...it seems the only characters I care about are Linney's, Sibide's and Hickey's, and the latter don't get enough screen time. Unless, *something* happens which will re-spark my interest in the show, I doubt I'd be tuning in next season. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif

Oh great, thanks for the info!

Unlinozistimi 06-11-2010 12:17 AM

anybody else kept up with this show? it just keeps getting better and better. and this week's episode really got me. that final scene with cathy and her brother was just heartbreaking and wonderful!

Teprophopay 06-11-2010 12:33 AM

I've loved every episode, MN! And yes, the last scene in this weeks ep was especially moving. I kinda wanted to slap her at the end, though, when she pretended it was a practical joke but, you know, in a loving way. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

Unlinozistimi 06-11-2010 01:05 AM

but ...
the reason she pretended it was a practical joke (just like sean did earlier in the episode) was to protect him. the idea of cathy having cancer really cut to the core of sean and he was falling apart. the whole reason she hasn't told anyone yet is because she doesn't want to cause pain. so even though it's selfish on one hand, on the other hand it's generous.

ufUUZCnc 06-11-2010 01:33 AM

I don't think the quality of the show has lived up to how amazing the trailer was but I'm still watching every week so it's doing something right. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Oh except where the hell is Cynthia Nixon already???

This.

Cathy seriously needs to tell somebody. This is getting ridiculous. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif And I loved the scene between her and the brother, and especially the one with her father. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/loveicon.gif Linney.

I know all of that, I totally get it. But at some point she has to realise that she's going to die and then everyone's going to become hip to the fact and be in pain anyway. As has been said, she needs to tell someone else. It's getting silly. They opened the potential for the drama to unfold with her brother and a beautiful moment ensued, then they quickly shut it. It was a big tease to me. That's why it irked me. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

Just watched this, and really really enjoyed it. I have a feeling I might cry every episode, but Laura Linney is fantastic. It has the kookiness of Weeds and the emotional pull of Six Feet Under.

Dabdklwu 08-17-2010 10:08 AM

Just finished watching this and already loving it.

Teprophopay 08-24-2010 06:06 AM

The premiere was great! Honestly I thought the premise was a bit too familiar, but it's executed incredibly well. And Laura Linney is lovely as always (I agree that she can start practicing her acceptance speeches, but it's a bit sad that we can already see that coming.) I hope the writing keeps up.

^I don't know...getting overlooked seems to be her thing. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cool.gif

Okay who else thinks her brother is tasty?...not just me I hope.

Teprophopay 08-26-2010 11:50 PM

Most definitely not just you. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

I wonder how long they're going to be able to drag out her not telling anybody before it starts to be annoying.

I'm in that camp. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif Oh, and Gabourey Sidibe is such a fantastic addition to the cast!

Teprophopay 08-31-2010 07:45 PM

^ Her character is easily my favourite. I'm really sad to hear she's not a permanent cast member.

This weeks episode rocked. But that's sort of implied at this point.

Koayrbzh 10-11-2010 01:03 AM

I love this show, but she really needs to tell someone. It's starting to bug me.

And how hot was the painter she had sex with? His accent? Yum.
