Default The Big C
"The extraordinary Laura Linney stars in the smart, funny and surprisingly different new Showtime Original Series THE BIG C. Cathy Jamison has always played by the rules. That is, until she finds out she's got cancer. But instead of giving up - Cathy's decided to live it up. From here on out, she'll say and do exactly what she wants, when she wants. New episodes Mondays at 10:30pm ET/PT beginning August 16th, only on SHOWTIME."

I caught this on IMDB. It also stars Gabourey Sidibe, Oliver Platt, and a number of actors we all know by face. I absolutely love this pilot. It's hilarious and moving and it's the type of thing you want to turn right around and re-watch. As long as this show maintains this quality, Laura Linney better start preparing her acceptance speeches.

Anyone else catch it?

NOTE: I just saw that you can currently get it for free on Itunes, so jump on it!

First episode was VERY good. Psyched to see Cynthia Dixon as Cathy's friend. And I'm gutted Gaborey Sidibe is only in a few eps.

Just watched this, and really really enjoyed it. I have a feeling I might cry every episode, but Laura Linney is fantastic. It has the kookiness of Weeds and the emotional pull of Six Feet Under.

The premiere was great! Honestly I thought the premise was a bit too familiar, but it's executed incredibly well. And Laura Linney is lovely as always (I agree that she can start practicing her acceptance speeches, but it's a bit sad that we can already see that coming.) I hope the writing keeps up.

Most definitely not just you.

I wonder how long they're going to be able to drag out her not telling anybody before it starts to be annoying.

I'm in that camp. Oh, and Gabourey Sidibe is such a fantastic addition to the cast!

^ Her character is easily my favourite. I'm really sad to hear she's not a permanent cast member.

This weeks episode rocked. But that's sort of implied at this point.

I've loved every episode, MN! And yes, the last scene in this weeks ep was especially moving. I kinda wanted to slap her at the end, though, when she pretended it was a practical joke but, you know, in a loving way.

but ...
the reason she pretended it was a practical joke (just like sean did earlier in the episode) was to protect him. the idea of cathy having cancer really cut to the core of sean and he was falling apart. the whole reason she hasn't told anyone yet is because she doesn't want to cause pain. so even though it's selfish on one hand, on the other hand it's generous.

I don't think the quality of the show has lived up to how amazing the trailer was but I'm still watching every week so it's doing something right.

Oh except where the hell is Cynthia Nixon already???

This.

Cathy seriously needs to tell somebody. This is getting ridiculous. And I loved the scene between her and the brother, and especially the one with her father. Linney.

I know all of that, I totally get it. But at some point she has to realise that she's going to die and then everyone's going to become hip to the fact and be in pain anyway. As has been said, she needs to tell someone else. It's getting silly. They opened the potential for the drama to unfold with her brother and a beautiful moment ensued, then they quickly shut it. It was a big tease to me. That's why it irked me.

I love this show, but she really needs to tell someone. It's starting to bug me.

And how hot was the painter she had sex with? His accent? Yum.

I know. It's episode 8 tomorrow and we've kind of not gone anywhere, except she's told a neighbour and some random painter. And there's only 10 episodes in the series.

On the plus side, Cynthia Nixon is introduced tomorrow.
