Default 127 Hours - Thoughts?
I know I'm pretty late on this film, but I just caught it today, and honestly, it made me tear up a bit. It's a pretty emotional movie and it really hooks you once he gets in his...situation(If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about). Anybody else seen it? Thoughts, criticisms?

I want to see it, but I've heard it can be pretty intense. I'm not bothered by gory stuff unless it involves eyeballs or broken bones.

I won't say much since you haven't seen it, but if you've read the real life story behind the movie, you'll know what type of gore it has in it. Nothing major, it lasts about 5 minutes on screen, but what is shown is pretty bad. I mean, it's nothing crazy, but it's the thought behind what is happening that causes the most intensity. I've sat through every SAW movie without flinching, but the scene in this movie made me cringe. I highly reccommend(SP?) the movie though. I'm about to watch it for the second time(So my girlfriend can see it). As I mentioned, the only gore is towards the end, but to be honest, it's not really even "gore". You see more in surgery shows on TV lol. If you want, I could post a link to the clip for you to preview?

I know the story and, if I remember correctly, he amputates his own arm, correct??? To put it in perspective...I have no problems browsing autopsy photos. Broken bones just make me cringe...and eyeball stuff.

Yes Natasha, that's what he does lol. The scene where he does that is pretty...cringe worthy, as he does have to break the bone before removing his arm, but if you can handle autopsies, I'm sure this would be no problem

What I loved was the fact that in the real life situation, Aron never released the videos he made while trapped, but for the film, they allowed James Franco to view the tapes, to get a better idea of how to act in his tapes, so it was like we were getting to see a bit of how Aron actually suffered and the toll the situation took on his life, ya know?

This is intriguing enough to make me want to watch it for sure.

According to the NBC interview with Aron that I watched, the tapes really do exist. While he was trapped, he recorded a series of tapes. It helped keep his mind off of the trauma he was going through, and it gave him a way to talk to his loved ones one last time, and from time to time, as he was going through the hypothermia and lack of sleep, food, and water, he recorded some of his delusions and whatnot. He never let the tapes be released or seen by anbody other than family members(He released very few portions of the audio though). When James Franco mentioned that he wanted to play the role of Aron, Aron let ONLY him view the tapes, as a way to ensure that James would properly embody what Aron really went through, rather than just improving and making a joke of the situation. Aron has previously confirmed that, and said that this film is the closest anybody will ever get to an acurate portrayal of his time spent trapped in the canyon, and that the film is extremely acurate(The only thing that wasn't factually correct was the scene with Aron and the girls swimming. In real life, they never swam, they all went rock climbing together).

Once you have that little piece of knowledge, I personally think it takes the film from being an emotional story and puts it on a whole new level, knowing that the scenes with James making the tapes are pretty close to what Aron actually recorded. It helps put you in that frame of mind that Aron was in, and helps you understand how horrible it was. It takes a lot for a movie to get me to tears, but this movie definitely did that. It's a great film, and a really inspirational story.
