So tonight's theme is Elton John. This could be either really great or really horrible, but I'm expecting boring. Better themes, please.

I'm pretty sure I zoomed off to a different planet from the rest of the world because I am completely disappointed in and unimpressed with this season of Idol, and I've never felt that way. There's always been someone or a few someones worth watching for me. But while EVERYONE is singing the praises of these contestants this year, I'm shoving cotton in my ears. And I don't get it. The judges are fawning all over them, various friends praise them online each week after the performances, and some people say it's the best season they've ever seen. So why the hell am I hearing something completely different? I'm never this judgmental about this show (or most others, really). But I'm clearly hearing utter shite every time they perform. And yet, I seem to be in the minority. I'm cornfuzed. I don't even watch the results show anymore. I just wait until the next day to find out online who was voted off.
i feel the same way. i think they're all ok. except for jacob. he makes my ears bleed. and haley. holy mariah carey. it's like she's combined every possible vocal technique into one. it's hard to watch. no one is god awful, but no one excites me at all. nothing i've seen so far makes me want to see more.

I just flipped on AI, and there was a guy playing the uprght bass. That was cool. I really want to play that instrument, and I know I probably never will. But I love to watch people who play it and sing at the same time

That was Casey. He did an amazing job but I have a feeling he will be in the bottom 3 since Jazz is sometimes difficult for people that don't understand the mechanics of music to "get."

idk, he wasn't in bottom 3 for 'Spell on You'. Also, he fucking killed it.

Hello! Casey is still the business, followed by THE DURBINATOR, who I didn't like at first but now he is one of my favourites. He's hilarious and has come on leaps and bounds with his control.

GO AWAY JACOB. Didn't like him much anyway because it was all Too Much but after his fuckery last week refusing to sing Marvin Gaye, to hell with him.

Also! I hate that producer man in the cap. I love Will.I.Am. And Steven Tyler, once my childhood legend, is now my coked up, leering dirty-old-man adult legend. Randy says "Yo!" too much and I don't know when it turned into the 90s again.

My thoughts on American Idol, condensed into a few sentences. YOU'RE WELCOME.

Tonight was better. Haley and Stefano need to go. That thing that Haley does with her voice? I don't know what you call it....growling? Not every note needs to be growled. Casey's learning that, and I'm enjoying his performances a lot more. James did well tonight, but I wish he'd understand that he can leave the screeching out of one song. We'll remember him w/o it. I think Pia's got one of the strongest voices, but that song wasn't right for her (neither was the outfit--but now I'm just being catty). I sorta liked Paul tonight. I think he also would have done well with Casey's song.

casey's growling still rubs me the wrong way. everything about him does, actually. but haley won me over tonight. she could sing mariah next week, and i'll be back to wanting her gone. pia has a technically strong, pleasing voice, but she does nothing to make me give a crap about her.

Uck. Haley growls because her voice is completely forgettable without doing a bad Christina Aguilera impression. I can't stand her.

I know that plenty of you didn't like Pia much, but her getting eliminated now was such bullshit. Her voice was the best in the competition, which I know isn't everything, but damn! She wasn't my favorite by any means but I always felt that she sang with a lot of emotion, which is big for me.

yeah, i never saw that one coming. dialidol had her with the 3rd highest amount of votes. they had it right when casey was almost voted off. the most annoying thing is that now i feel bad for stefano who had to listen to everyone's "it should have been you!" reaction. they may not have said that, but that was the feeling.

I think there's something wrong with him. I think he has Aspergers and tourettes or something. My little brother is Aspergers too, and they have some of the same mannerisms and stuff.
Yeah, James has Aspergers and tourettes. Earlier in the season he explained that singing calms down his tourettes. (I love the kid.)

I want Paul and Stefano gone. now.

I know! That was just awkward and embarrassing. As far as Pia, she wasn't a favorite of mine, but I still thought she might be the one to win. I'm shocked. I'd have much rather seen Jacob go. His weird statement about America not looking at themselves or whatever just rubbed me the wrong way.

Yeah, I felt bad for Stefano, too, but even he thought it was going to be him who was leaving, you could see it on his face before Ryan announced Pia's name. And he looked really upset after, when Pia was singing at the end. And speaking of Ryan, am I the only one who thought that how he handled telling Jacob he was safe was REALLY douchy?! "I am sorry to say that you will be leaving us tonight ......(long pause).... to go sit over there on the couches, you're safe!". I seriously wanted to punch Ryan in the face when he did that. WTF?!

I wanted to punch him in the face because I was so glad that Jacob was leaving, and then...NO! Ugh. He can sing very, very well, but I am endlessly annoyed by his need to try singing as high as possible ( and usually falling flat) and throw in all of those gospel vocal cliches. Worse than that is his performance style. Every time I see him walk out, I say " And......Miss Patti Labelle"! If he wasn't a drag queen, he needs to be. ( To clear that up, I've obviously nothing against girly men, but those mannerisms are annoying regardless of gender) Then to find out he was safe and Pia was going home? WTF? She was hands down the best vocalist on the show...possibly ever. No one should ever attempt singing Celine Dion, but she made it sound so freaking easy and amazing!

I really thought it would be Stefano to go home. He is so forgettable to me and always picks the most MOR, bland songs. He's so cheesy.

James is incredible and my secret boyfriend. Paul used to be until I realized that he's one beer away from the dumb frat guy that thinks he's "cool" and listens to Dave Matthews and this really obscure artist named " Ryan Adams". Him doing Cash made me want to puke. He doesn't have a voice and just acts like a total dumbass to hide the fact that he really has nothing to offer.

I honestly thought that after last season, the show would never survive. Not only has it survived, but it's come back better than ever. I cringed at the thought of JLO being a judge, but she has won me over and I absolutely love her. The changes they have made to the show have made it more credible and entertaining. Having the biggest producers in the industry work with them instead of guest coaches was a genius move and it's paying off. I also love that they got rid of so many people so early and just gave us the best of the best. Normally, we would've had to have waited forever for someone like Jordan ( snotty Usher guy) or Brett ( this season's possible Sanjaya ) to get kicked off. Before, those people would've made it through for entertainment value. I like that they stuck to a simple criteria: who sings the best. Also, it's refreshing to have them judged based solely on their singing and not have to hear Simon and Paula talk about their look, outfit, etc. Actually, that's one of my favorite things about this season. It seems to be a legit singing competition again.

I can't believe all the fuss over Pia getting booted. I have comments in my facebook feed from numerous people who cried. I loved it. I don't care if she sings good. She's such a non entity. She's so friggin' boring I already barely remember her face. Really, who are these people that are gonna run out and buy the Pia album?? Maybe her music will be popular at a nice, teary slow dance at an 80's prom.

I pretty much wish they'd just vote them all out and get it over with.

I obviously don't think Pia should have gone home, but her performance was not that great. Vocally, she's untouchable, but she's not very exciting to watch.

I really wish Scotty and Paul would be voted out because neither of them are as good as the others. That always happens though. There are those two hangers-on who make it to the top five by being just-good-enough while other more talented folks get the boot. I call them dingleberries.

I've been watching, and I think it's a good season!

My favorite is James. I like Jacob, even though he's crazy fucking over-the-top and his "America not being able to look at themselves" comment rubbed me the wrong way. I find Casey obnoxious, and he seems like he's a serial killer, but he's talented. I think I'm the only one who likes Haley--I think she has a great voice. I'm on the fence about Paul.

Lauren, Scott, and Stefano need to go. Starting with Stefano. I'm waiting for him to sing a Michael Bolton song or something. He has the worst taste of anyone on the show. Lauren is boring. Scott is good at what he does, but it's one-note, and it's not really my thing.

I agree. I don't think Pia needed to go home either, but if I wanted to hear Celine Dion or Mariah Carey I could just pop their CDs in already. Pia didn't bring anything new. She sounded great, but that was pretty much it.
