^^Overall, yes, but I think Portman will deservedly take home the Oscar. I'm most interested to see who will get Best Supporting Actor/Actress nods. There are only a few people who I think are a lock for noms (Bale and Leo). Other than that I don't really know what to expect.

I hope True Grit is treated like it was at the Golden Globes. No Noms.
I hope Mila Kunis is given a nod along with Barbara Hershey. Jackie Weaver from Animal Kingdom should be excluded.
And I hope Rabbit Hole is given more love. Aaron Eckhart should get a nomination, I feel.
I thought Julianne Moore was much better than Annette in The Kids are Alright. I hope she gets the nod too or instead.
Kristen Scott-Thomas being overlooked for Nowhere Boy would be a travesty, in my opinion.

After last year only having seen ONE nominated film (Coraline), I swore this year I'd be better so I could make more informed opinions and speculations.... and I've seen maybe half a dozen of the "big in various ways" movies this year. Argh. Curse myself and my procrastination (and using Netflix to watch tv series and old documentaries and MST3K instead of Oscar bait). Must watch more movies.

Juliane's character in that movie has me cracking up so much; I agree.

Disaster. True Grit gets.... it gets EVERYTHING!
Can't believe Mila Kunis didn't get a nomination. Oh Well.
Good for Bardem and Biutiful. Biutiful also got a nom on its own.

Man, I was hoping for better... afterall an Oscar nomination is powerful. It is a powerful thing desired by all.

FUCK YES, John Hawkes. Best surprise of the morning.

The other surprise is Javier Bardem for Biutiful. I don't think he was even on the radar until recently.

Ryan Gosling - Screwed By Oscar? Dunno. Haven't seen it yet.

Oh yeah, Mila Kunis. Definitely SBO.

True Grit is very deserving IMO. I would have been seriously pissed if Hailee hadn't gotten in.

Jeremy Renner gets a nomination for The Town.. but nothing for Gosling? or Eckhart?

I know that Bridges pushed him out of best actor. True Grit..

I was really thinking the Serbian film "Solemn Promise" would get one in the foreign language category, or the war film from Lebanon.

I'm glad. It was, IMO, the best movie this year, way more satisfying than Black Swan or The Kids are All Right. That said, I haven't seen The King's Speech.

Yep. I've seen the Kings Speech and while it deserves all the noms, True Grit is my favorite from last year. They're both amazing movies.

The Kids Are All Right was a great movie but it didn't have the ambition of True Grit or The King's Speech. In my head, I keep it in the same corner as Blue Valentine. Both are almost perfect executions of what they set out to be.

Overrated:
The Social Network
Black Swan
Inception
The Fighter

Underrated:
Winter's Bone
Blue Valentine
How To Train Your Dragon
Toy Story 3
Tangled

Really? Unless I'm missing something, I just don't see that what she did in Black Swan was so OMGamazing. She was good, yes, but Oscar-worthy? Dunno.

^agree about Kunis. If anyone should have been nominated, it's Hershey.

I haven't seen Another Year yet, but I have a feeling that Lesley Manville was majorly screwed.
