Never understood the fascination about that.

I reckon M.G never had a state in mind for Springfield. It works better as an any-town and he knows that. He wouldn't be the first writer to issue forth red herrings and wild geese.

They had multiple clues throughout the seasons that alluded to the possible location of Springfield. Apparently, they were all contradictory. I wonder if Oregon makes sense now.
