Miswak can be used in conjunction with today's electric sonic toothbrush, dental floss and mouthwash.

Otherwise why do we travel by car, train or plane? We should stick to camels, donkeys, horses and boat?

Why do we communicate by email, (cell / mobile) phone, fax or Skype? We should stick to verbal face to face or snail mail / letter?

You have a point sister but they are 2 different things.

Wouldn't be great if we chase taqwa instead of fatwa?

You have not understood the sunnah of miswak. Prophet (saw) did miswak when he (saw) entered his (saw) house, prophet (saw) did miswak when he went to sleep, prophet (saw) did miswak when he woke up e.t.c in many places prophet (saw) did miswak.

Miswak can not be brought to the level of electric sonic, tootbrush, dental floss and moutwash. If it was, then will a person do mouthwash when he enters his house, goes to sleep, wakes up? or brush his teeth? or use dental floss? prophet (saw) used miswak in many places, and to apply yourself and to copy the way of prophet (saw) is way better.
bro, also Prophet [saws] used Miswaak after food too...
I have a book on miswaak which I'll scan and upload after this holy month its pretty comprehensive.

Prophet (saw) indeed used miswak after food. On many occasions and places prophet (saw) used miswak. Even when prophet (saw) was on his (saw) death bed he (saw) used miswak.

We don't stupid need a seal of approval from any medical institutions - researches The reason why I said that we don't any approval apart from the Hadith is:

Will we be abandoning a great sunnah if tomorrow some other research tells us Miswaak isn't good ? You see the folly in following those things?

Also, we will get the thawab of the sunnah ONLY if we practice upon CONSIDERING its a sunnah, if we follow it based upon medical research - THERE IS NO THAWAB. I'am 100% sure about this. Ask any Scholar.

@Amna4, wait for my book scan - you are a revert, so you and all of us need a comprehensive detailed discussion on this.

Lets be careful and not mock this sunnah of prophet (saw).

It is our iman that when Allah (swt) created knowledge, Allah (swt) made it in 100 parts, and one part was for this whole creation, the animals, the human, the scientist, the muffasir, muhadith, 'ulama, doctors, engineers, everyone e.t.c and the 99 parts was for prophet (saw).

So to say that medical reports disapprove of this sunnah of miswak, that is itself denying that we do not have iman that prophet (saw) had the most knowledge in this creation. And to question and ask or maybe change the way of this sunnah is itself a mock, and and to deny this fact.

We have very less knowledge compared to prophet (saw), and we do not know how much wisdom is behind just one sunnah and how many benefits are their. Wether they are seen or unseen benefits, internal or external, worldly or the akhirah e.t.c So we must accept that this sunnah is the best of the actions that can be done.

On the importance of sunnah:

Al-Tirmidhi 143:

I heard Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) saying: If it were not burdensome upon my Ummah I would have commanded them to use miswak at every prayer and to delay the night prayer till the third part of the night is over. Zayd ibn Khalid used to attend prayers in the mosque with his miswak over his ear, the place where the scribe places his pen on the ear, and he did not pray without using miswak. After using he put it back at its place.

Transmitted by Tirmidhi, AbuDawud, but with this exception that he made no mention: I would have delayed the night prayer to a third part of the night. Tirmidhi stated: This is a hasan sahih hadith. Here too our Prophet was merciful.

I only included the study proving the Miswak is superior to the toothbrush in the hopes it would make Auzer stop spouting nonsense. He's not going to listen to Ahadith; this should be readily apparent to anyone who has even a passing familiarity with his post history.

I was not suggesting that we should only follow the Sunnah if science supports it.

Miswak is a "portable" toothbrush with built in toothpaste. You could carry a standard toothbrush with a travel sized toothpaste tube and then brush your teeth whenever you like? You would need some water to rinse your mouth. As I said miswak can be used in conjunction with today's dental equipment. I doubt nobody today uses only miswak to brush their teeth - you use a brush and paste too? Further miswak alone doesn't clean behind the teeth effectively and in between them; you still need floss to remove food particles lodged between teeth?

Remember that's all the Prophet (saw) had available. If the Philips sonicare existed - he might have used that? Likewise, for the toilet he used stones / clay pieces and not tissue which we use today.

@sister Husnaa, using mswak in conjunction with tbrush is not wrong, but I know of a memebr right here on sf who used only miswaak and has lovely teeth...and i too know 2 more people who use only miswak.
