Not everyone knows the sunnah and people follow their culture. And not everyone who knows follow the sunnah. The Muslim beard has been negatively portrayed by secularists and others...it is associated with religiousness and therefore thought of as backward, and like the hijab for women people may feel intimidated to grow it. However if grown Allah is sure to confer honor to the person.

The Sunnah is to grow the beard amd trim the moustache so why do the exact opposite? In this scenario even a clean shaven brother is better because he trims the moustache? even if they don't know it Personally I prefer to see a man with a mustache and no beard to a clean shaven man though as a clean shaven man is making himself look like a boy or a woman they are pretty much the transvestites of the face |

They say moustaches were the way of the people of Sodom and Ghamorra (homosexuals).
I have heard people say that men without beards are girly.... because they are on the sunnah of the majoos |

They say moustaches were the way of the people of Sodom and Ghamorra (homosexuals). but Prophet (saws) told us not to grow mustache and shave beard because it was the way of the fire worshipers, the Sunnah of Islam is beautiful Personally as well as a big beard and very short mustache I like to see men's hair cut very short too but the last one is more a matter of taste than anything as long as it is shorter than the shoulders and all cut the same length then all is fine in Islam Interestingly I have heard that Imam Malik (raa) considered it to be a bidah to completely shave the mustache (make it smooth) |

What you hear and what is actually true are too different things. Many muslim brothers don't have a beard it does not mean they are transvesties so stop being so negative and name calling. Eb elaki! |

What a horrid thing to say, calling clean shaven brothers tranvestites. Really? |

Regardless saying that shaving the moustache= transvestie is just plain rude It doesn't There are Muslims who make zina (I'm not making a comparison): should we stop saying it's a heinous sin in order to avoid "hurting" them? Truth it truth no matter what people do or don't. We should stop taking offence or taking it personally when something haram is discussed, only because ourselves or someone loved to us do that. Our primary allegiance is to truth, and if we really love someone, we'll try our best to advice him accordingly, instead of burying our hand in the sand and start all the "don't judge" "mantra". May Allah grant us tawfiq to follow His orders and abstain from his prohibitions, amin. |

If you think about the only reason why brothers shave is because it supposedly looks "uncouth" and "messy" in a non Muslim or even Muslim country?
Otherwise why bother to shave because: 1. You can save time and hassle in the morning before going to work; 2. No chance of cutting yourself; 3. Save money on razor and blades - blades cost a fortune; 4. Blades are the most shoplifted item in some countries - not shaving would reduce this; 5. The security in a shop wouldn't have to bore themselves pointing their CCTV cameras whenever someone was standing in front of the blades section; 6. Sunnah (most important reason). And your kids can play with your beard and pretend you are "Santa Claus"!!! These are good reasons to remind your male relatives to grow a beard! |

If the OP was simply a sociological survey of sorts as to why Muslim men shave their beards and allow their mustaches to grow, then there should an investigation into the influences in various Muslim countries.
For example, Algeria. 100 years of French colonial occupation and cultural imperialism played a major factor in shaping Algerian views of male facial hair. Algerians BEFORE the French had facial hair and beards as shown in the depictions of shaykh Abdul Qadir a wali and resistance fighter against French occupation. In contrast, every president after French departure shaved his face, most kept a moustache. Ben Bella to Bou Medienne to Bouteflika. |

I know brothers who spend more time in the masjid, are hafeez, and overall great people who take their deen seriously but they dont have a beard. They say they shave b/c of work regulations and what not. So to sit there and say they are hermaphrodites/transvestites b/c they don't have a beard is ridiculous. If they are doing it for no reason, or to be a "pretty boy" thats different.

I don't really buy into the excuse of needing to be clean shaven for work...does anyone have such rules? This is a problem indeed... a big one. |

Sometimes we may not get a job unless we shave :/ we do not get job because we think this way. What is wrong is that, ask yourself who gives job? who gives you sustenance? who will kick you out of job? who will bring death on you? who is making you live? who is runing this whole creation? e.t.c The answer for all of those question is just one. And you know it. So if you have belief that these creation can do something, then you are dissolved in this duniya. But if you have belief that these creation can not do anything and Allah (swt) can do, then you are dissolved in the akhirah. Chose the one you like. If Allah (swt) wants a poor guy begging on the street can become a king next second or day. Or a king become a begger. Whats hard for Allah (swt)? Success of this duniya and akhirah lies in following the sunnah of prophet (saw). Chose your way, do you want to satisfy the company, the work force or Allah (swt) and the prophet (saw)? |
