Really is that question necessarily need to ask?
Do i need strong reason to change?

It is a lot easier to follow a madhhab practiced by the majority in your locality and access to the scholars of a madhhab should be very high on the list to consider when changing a madhhab since we are not all aware of many of the masaail we might encounter and the position of the madhhab with regards to them. As for either of these being a necessity, they are not.

I add with more questions. Is it because you are living among Malikis? or just because you think Maliki is better than Shafi'i?

so that means,i should only follow maliki madhab after i am aware of it well. right?

if you could find a good teacher in the madhab & you can start learning now then it shouldnt be a big problem. but remember you will get married to a shafi' women & your children would be shafi because that would be the madhab of your comunity & their madrasah. not only will you stand out in you comunity but also in your own family. there will be alot of confusion & the laymen who have no idea about your new madhab will speak bad of you & your madhab & eventually the Imaam of your madhab. it is the ignorence of the people.

unless you really have to dont change. im not saying this in support of my madhab but in support of the Deen & unity.

After reading a book by Shaykh Abdul Qadir As Sufi called Root Islamic Education I too thought changing ones mathab should not be a big deal if one is prepared to learn all the necessary rules. This book was saying that Al Muwatta of Imam Malik (RA) is second after the Quran in its Sahih ness and contains what is known as 'The Golden Chain' of hadith Narrators, that with it and the Quran only, the whole deen could be re-constructed if need be. It has a powerful argument, but no doubt others would argue against it.

Have you heard that one of the Muslim rulers told imam Malik (ra) that he would like to make his book the Muwwata the only law of his land and Imam Malik asked him not to do that. Do you know why he asked him not to do it? I do not know but I would like to know.

Well obviously you woudlnt be able to practice maliki fiqh if you dont actually know how to. Also where woudl you go for fatawa? If you have an alim and some material on maliki fiqh then just go through it and start practicing it inshallah. there is no "maliki shahada" or something

I dont think any alim would want every single muslim to be forced to follow his opinions only. Also imam malik himselfsaid taht everyones statement is eitehr accepted or rejected except the prophet SAW. So he considered himself fallible so perhaps he didnt want the ummah to unite upon his mistakes. Allahu a'lam

The salafi scholars have no issue with madhabs or taqleed akhi, but I personally prefer not to get involved with any particular group at the moment, I might dabble here and there or attend the odd event of various groups but I really feel strongly that the most important thing right now is to work for the ummah inshAllah, issues of salafi or sufi are personal things which are down to the individual and nothing more. Whatever they feel works best for them.

I find some brothers to get involved in "byzantium debate". They say when the byzantium castle was being stormed, the christian scholars sat around debating what the sex of an angel would be, whether they are male or female.

Even shaikh ul islam ibn taimiyyah one of the imaams of salafi dawah worked with sufis and asharis to fight the mongols because he had his priorities straight. i'd go as far as saying that the muslims of today are in a worse predicament than we faced against the mongols. allahu musta'aan

dont fear them, treat them as brothers inshAllah, they are your brothers. Many of them are strong in their imaan alhamdulillah and have love for islam which is not the case for many muslims today so the strong shoudl work together to help the 99% who are drinking and clubbing and committing haraam ratehr than the 1% who are actually practising fighting each other. Dont get into debates with them, just practice your way and let them practice their way inshAllah
