Colonel or anyone else, rather than everyone try to figure everything regarding this issue out right now, do you have a timetable for this ramadhan to follow which is based on twilight issue. For UK, for birmingham especially so that we know when the correct time is for suhoor ends/fajr starts, and perhaps even when isha starts.
According to Accurate Times. 18 degrees for Fajr and 15 degrees for Isha:

* Settings:-
- Prayer times from: 07/04/2011 CE To: 31/08/2011 CE
- UK Birmingham, Long: -01:53:38,0, Lat: 52:28:59,0, Ele:200,0, Zone:0,00
- Summer time is from: 27/03 To: 30/10
- Height above mean sea-level affects rise and set events.
- Subtract Fajer: 0 Min, Add Dhohur: 0 Min, Add Asr: 0 Min, Add Maghreb: 0 Min
- Fajer Angle: 18 , Isha Angle: 15
- Refraction Settings: Temperature: 10 °C Pressure: 1010 mb
- Mazhab: Standard
- City Settings: 0 Km.
- Delta T: 65,2 Second(s)
================================================== =====================

Date Fajer Shuroq Dhohur Aser Maghreb Isha

There is no mention of shafaq abyad or ahmar in that programme. The programme works with degrees only.

:[*] You can follow 15 degrees upon the opinion of Shaykh
In the book put online by Ml. Farid Patel called Subh Sadiq wa Kadhib it is mentioned by Ml. Shabir Ahmad Kakakhel that he met Mufti Rashid Ahmad Ludhianwi in Jannuary 1984, discussed the prayer times with him and presented his research. Then he stated that Mufti remained was silent and doubted, and later on said that "I thought first that the only stance was 15 degrees, but now I do not rule out other stances such as 18 degrees and even 19 degrees." (p. 6)

He never retracted 15 degrees.

He was unsure about it. Why else would he think about 18 degrees then? Moreover, did he tell the masses to stop fasting at 15 degrees or 18?

He clearly stated that Isha should be prayed on 18 degrees. And Fajr on 15 degrees to avoid difference of opinion.

For womenfolk who adopt the 18 degree rule for sehri ends/fajr starts can I just confirm that they can then pray fajr at home as soon as sehri ends according to 18 degrees. So on the 1st of august, sehri ends at 2.18am in birmingham. Fast is closed and by 2:20am they can then pray fajr. as they are following 18 degree rule, there is really no need for them to wait for the 15 degrees to set in, correct?

heres a couple of masjids that got it right and done fajr according to 18 degrees.

http://makkahmasjid.co.uk/data/RAMADAN%202011.pdf

http://www.faizanemadina.org.uk/ (click on prayer times, and then select august)

i still don't get why some people like Shaykh riyadh ul haqs Alkawtahr academy have adopted 15 degrees for fajr, when it is such a weak and minority opinion, can someone explain?

Shabbir Kakakhel Sahab is a Shaykh of tassawuf, and not a Maulana/Aalim.

I live near to him, and have good terms with him.

Brother Colonel, please could you clarify the following for me?

I got the salah times using the following website:

http://www.ukho.gov.uk/HMNAO/Pages/Home.aspx

It gives the imsak time for 1st Aug to be 01:55AM at 18 degrees, however my local masjid's timetable puts it at 03:30AM. If I personally want to be more cautious, is it better I go with 1:55AM and have my suhur before then?

Also, I appreciate you are not dealing with Esha in this thread, but I've asked a question previously i.e. is it better to pray Esha at the later times in summer, if one is able to, rather than praying in jamat at the masjid at the earlier time? And similarly could I use the very early fajr times these timetables give (based on 18 degrees) so that I can pray early and get some sleep before going to work in the morning?

brother, really appreciate your help and your effort in highlighting these important issues.

Ramadan Mubarak everyone.

This is seriously confusing. I've consulted over 5 calendars and they are all giving different times. Can someone recommend one calendar I could follow? (a London based calendar should do)

How are the timings on Islamic Academy? http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/Times/Times_UK.htm ?

The jumping between minutes is not random; it's calculated.

For Bradford, get a copy of Mufti Zubair Butt's timetable (I'll upload it tomorrow) or a timetable from Mufti Ismail Kacholwi. Or even IMWS. It would be best if you stay awake so you can pray at a time that is agreed upon by all, but if that's not possible or difficult, pray after 1:50.

@muminah, for today, finish sehri early (like now). Tomorrow, I'll find out for you which timetable is the most accurate you can follow for London.

There is no way that Subh-Sadiq can start before 18 degrees its a scientific impossibility

Can you explain why these authorities don't know this simple fact or is there anything else we should know?

"Egyptian General Authority of Survey uses 19.5° and Umm Al-Qura of Saudi Arabia uses 19° for Fajr."

jazakallah, i will await your upload as im not sure how to get their timetable.

Also when i meant randomly. i wa sjust referring to that im normally used to calendars being 2 mins different everyday as opposed to 10mins or 7 etc.

As requested, timetables for Bradford and London for those who wish to folllow the earlier time.

For London, being a large area, there may be slight differences in the time depending on where you live in the city. Consult local scholars for further clarifications.
