Default Wiping cotton socks (not leather)
All four schools of thought say it's okay to wipe on leather socks. But for normal socks Hanafi says no but the other 3 say yes -- if we were to vote it would be 3 for and 1 against. Therefore the stronger position is wiping on normal everyday socks is allowed.

In a non Muslim public place typically the office are you going to put your feet in the sink in front of your colleagues? There will be more negativity than a positive impression as Western 'urf (customs) doesn't find this polite.

Of course, you could use the disabled toilet and do wudhu in private. But the religion is flexible and masah on socks makes life sooooooooo much easier. Just make sure you do wudhu at home and put socks on without delay!

Sorry, but your wrong. The opinion of 3 out of the four schools is that it is not permissible to wipe on cotton socks, they have to be leather. The only school that allows a little leeway is the Hanbali school.
So the Majority opinion is that the socks have to be leather.

Just buy a pair of leather socks and wear them to work.

Wearing leather / sealskinz or even thick socks in a stuffy office for 9 hours is uncomfortable and bad for your feet. How about doing wudhu at home, wearing thin socks and putting on leather shoes whilst in wudhu. Then wiping on your shoes for wudhu in the office and praying in them? That's allowed by all 4?

I was traveling once and wore khuff for the limit of three days (for one who's traveling), during that time I hiked several miles in the grand canyon, my feet were fine. My khuff... I had to let air out for a few days.

It's actually the other way around.
Hanafi, Shafi'i, and Maliki school all are against masah over normal socks; only in the Hanbali school there is some leeway.

Are you saying it's easier to wear leather shoes for 9 hours straight, but difficult to wear leather socks or even seal skin socks for the same amount of time?
That does not quite make sense.

In any case, if you were to do the above, that would be fine; just make sure you pray with the shoes on.
If you are walking about with the shoe everywhere, it may become an issue as you would have to make sure there is no najaasat on the shoes.
Plus, it also be more uncomfortable to sit down in salaah properly with a leather shoe on.

Just a point to add, if a person makes masah over his leather shoe, the shoe itself should be above the ankle.

You are wrong, Shafi'i Madhab doesn't allow wiping over cotton socks in wudu, because its not sturdy enough to be used without shoes and also doesn't prevent water penetration.

I believe the following is correct:

I believe the following is correct:
actualy in the shafi madhab if the sock is made from thick cotton or wool then you could make mash oover it. aslong as the sock is strong that it can be walked on & its water proof it is sufficient regardless of the material its made from-although the material has to be pure.
but as it is stated in the link there are other opinions by Imaam Juwayni & Imaam Ghazali RAHM, where water being water proof is not a shart.

I mean:

Thin socks and shoes is more comfortable than leather socks and shoes?

You aren't going to walk about a non Muslim office in just leather socks?

Understood; but you mentioned it's difficult to even wear seal skin socks + regular shoe for 9 hours, but suggested an alternative to pray with leather shoes on, which would mean you couldn't take off that shoe for 9 hours, even during prayer. That just seemed like an odd solution.

I don't own leather or seal skin socks.
I would rather wear thin socks + shoes for 9 hours without taking them off THAN leather socks + shoes for 9 hours but leather socks only for 10 minutes for prayer. Think about it!

As an owner and wearer of sealskinz socks (by themselves) or leather socks worn over cotton socks for over 9 hours a day, many days/week for over 2 years, your opinion on the wearability/breathability/usability of these socks is is utterly false.

IN SHOES, IN SHOES, IN SHOES - are leather socks in shoes comfortable?

I told you one is not going round an office / outside in leather socks alone - you wear shoes as well....

Why are posters replying to old posts and not reading the WHOLE thread first?

Then you put your khufs back in your boots after a day's work? Aren't they soiled with office floor impurity?
