![]() Here's a shortened translation of the talk. I apologize in advance for any mistakes that may have occurred in the translation. If there's a correction, please do post it for everyone's benefit. _____ Talk by Hazrat Molana Saleem Dhorat saheb People nowadays keep searching for new ways of doing things. The methodology will remain the same for the religion that came 1400 years ago. Before, an announcement would be made on the pulpit that the masjid requires this amount, please donate. And now the new way is donation through barbecue. This is a new way, so the people like it. The emotion of spending without expecting any return exists within the Ummah, why are you ending this? The people spend without expecting any returns. They expect that they will receive their reward from Allah, for whatever they spend. You are ending this by getting people to spend by giving them something. [Telling the people:] "You will get barbecue, so donate." "The ticket for this function is this much, all the proceeds from it will go to this project." And how much is being collected from these functions? Masjids are being built for 1 million, 2 million, 3-4 million, and all of the money for them come from traditional donations. And how much is being collected at these functions? 5000, 10000, 15000? For this amount, you are playing with the emotion of selfless spending of this Ummah. And look at what is going on in these functions. Money is being collected for the masjid, and there's free mixing between men and women. Just in our city, there are such Muslims who can build masjids for 4 million pounds, each one of them. And these donations wouldn't make any difference in their treasury. But look at the emotions of the general public. Even in a city where we have such people, 90% contribution for the muslim projects is by the general public. But the reason why the contributions of the wealthy businessmen stand out is because we see a few single individuals donating $100,000 and they are praised. But the 90% that is paid for by the general public, nobody praises them, or even mentions them. The general public is donating so openly, without expecting any returns, only for their Akhirah. We are ruining their emotions of selflessness. When the Bosnia or Kosova genocide was taking placing, someone in this city had an idea of raising money for them through barbecue. Muslims were being killed openly, and they were having barbecue here. In Bosnia or Kosovo, the Friday on which my Hadhrat Haji Faruq Saheb (RA) passed away, that was the day [? –Translator - sorry I couldn’t make out the word here] when the barbecue was taking place. People were spending 50 pounds for those people, but spending it to eat barbecue. Where’s our ghairat? Where’s our pain? The compassion for the Ummah? People were being massacred, children made orphans, elders left without any support, and we can’t even send them 50 pounds without eating barbecue. I don’t know anything about permissible-impermissible. All I know is that the disposition that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wassalam) left for us, this new way is against that disposition. And it is against the disposition of the Sahabah (Radi Allahu anhum). And the disposition of the Mashaikh, Awliya Allah, Muhadditheen, Mufassireen, of the past 1400 years. And even today, the disposition that the pious elders of this religion are trying to create within the people, this is against it. Why? Because it is the old-fashioned way? I keep trying to make the youth understand that ‘All that glitters is not gold.’ Rather ‘Old is gold.’ Old-fashioned way! The way of the Sahaba (RA), buzurgs, mashaikh, muhadditheen, mufassireen, fuqaha, and the way of the entire Ummah. The way that they all followed. These doctors, so-and-so’s, and other so-and-so’s, all appearing on youtube. This is a trial. We don’t realize it, but this is a trial that Allah has given us. We don’t realize it. Many such doctors have come in the past who showed new ways to the Ummah. And the people followed them in crowds. But those old ulama who knew and understood the ways of Shariah, held on to the ways and views of their elders firmly. And it used to seem that these elders will be overtaken and defeated and the new ways will be accepted by the entire Ummah. But what happened was that after 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, these doctors disappeared, and they disappeared in such a way, that today the world doesn’t even know their names. If our elders had not strived against them, and if their efforts had not been recorded in our elders’ biographies, then nobody would have even known about those fitnas. It is from the blessings of the efforts of our elders, that the names of those people is known today. All these fitnas, all disappeared. So many movements, large conferences. It was all about introducing new ways, and everyone was dazzled by them. And the way of Hadhrat Mawlana Ilyas Saheb (RAH) is the old way. And how long has it since Hadhrat’s death? The greatness that this movement had in those days, even today it has the same greatness. Because it is the right way, and the right method. How long has it been since Hadhrat Mawlana Thanvi (RAH) passed away? Even today his books are as widespread as they were during his time. Why? Because Haqq (truth) is Haqq and Batil (falsehood) is Batil. Batil raises its head during its time and becomes overpowered. But Haqq is always raised. And Allah Ta’ala has placed great blessings and barakat in the ways of our elders. Whoever stays closest to them, will benefit the most. And our Hadhrat had advised us and the teachers of Islamic Dawah Academy that we should try our best that nothing against the way of our elders and Awliya Allah takes place here. There are huge conferences taking place, and ways are adopted to attract the largest crowds so that they are praised. The praise of people will be of avail in the Akhirah. Even if the work is small, but it must be in the manner of your elders. The goal is not praise of the people, rather it is the praise of Allah, and His acceptance. May Allah give us the tawfeeq to act upon these, grant us Ikhlaas (sincerity), grant us the tawfeeq of the continuous renewal of Ikhlaas. And may Allah grant us the tawfeeq of holding firm the ways of our ulama and elders, who have been granted their abodes in Paradise. End of talk _______ |
