Here is the list of authors to avoid from this old thread.
Avoiding certain authors is a good way of cutting down your reading list. Since most of the people who visit the forum are reader type this is the type of advice that has high chances of falling on deaf ears. But once a reader has explored an author and then decides him to be unworthy of attention then he is more likely to give him a cold shoulder. In short the list will have the opposite effect but that is just as well. Of course there is interesting discussion on that thread and it has not gone stale at all. ****************** Javed Ahmad Ghamdi Habibur Rahman Siddiqui Tamanna Imadi "Maulana Muhammad Ali" {Qadiyani} Khalid Abou el-Fadl Ghaulam Ahmad Pervez Ghulam Jilani Barq Sir Sayyid Ahmad Khan Chiragh `Ali Syed Ameer Ali Prof. Fazl ur Rahman Abul `Ala Maududi Khurram Murad Yusuf Islahi Amin Ahsan Islahi Sayyed Qutb Naasir-ud-Din Al-Albani. Once while in jamaat in kanpur.. i was discussing something with Hazrat Maulana Ghazanfar sahab Nadwi db ( Zimmedar of Kanpur) i narrated the above to him.. he halted me all of a sudden.. took out a piece of paper and wrote it down..! so did the mufti saheb who was sitting beside him.. wallah..! humility is something one should learn from the Ahl ullah.. i found this man Hazrat Maulana Gazanfar sahab db a sea of knowledge.. and a brave man while our qiyam was at his masjid.. he callled me and said.. " lets go dr sahab.. we have a khusoosi mulaqat.. " i said fine.. ready anytime.. we both drove some 30 - 40 kms out to the next town.. straight to a grave yard.. it seems he was informed of someones death.. well it was a totally different crowd there.. all barelwis.. with few sprinkling of modernist white collared people here and there.. he introduced me to a few lawyers and judges.. and they seemed difficult to visually digest a doctor in such attire.. after the burial i guess someone requested Maulana for a dua.. of course hearts are soft at a graveyard after all.. and Maulana started a bayan there.. amidst all barelwis.. on the life on Qur'an and sunnah and the defination of bid'ah and its calamity.. for a second i wondered if anything goes bad how many people could i handle.. ! but this man was an Alim rabbani.... none moved for the whole 20-30 mins.. standing in the blazing hot sun of June.. he did not do tashkeel overtly... but sent a message clear enough for them to understand.. Maulana had a lot of affection for me amongst the precious gems i got from him this one i could not forget.. said once while i inquired him about the Karamaat of Auliya.. he replied saying " why should one be surprised if Shaikh Sabir Kalyari performed a certain karamat or Allah's nusrat descended on someone from ghaib".. said.. " Chai me agar koee cheeni daalde aur mithaas agayi to kya kamaal hai.. Ta'ajjub to tab ho ki cheeni daalde aur mithaas na ayi.." ( if some adds sugar to tea and it turns sweet.. whats there to be amazed about.. but yes.. it should concern when one adds sugar and it does not sweeten the tea ) " waise hi agar koee Allah ke deen ka kaam kare aur ghaibi Nusrat agayi to kya kamaal hai.. ye to hona tha... haan koee Allah ke deen ka kaam kare aur koee nusrat na aye.. to phir sochne ki baat hai.. ke hum se kahaan chuk hui.." ( similarly when someone strives in the path of Allah (swt) and the ghaibi nusrah of Allah (swt) descends.. it should not amaze anyone.. but yes.. if someone does the work of Allah's deen and still remains deprived of Allah's help.. then one should ponder what went wrong..) kyon ke Allah ne kaha hai jo uske deen ka kaam karega main uske qadam jama dunga.. phir kya bayeed hai ke shaikh Sabir Kalyari (rah) se karamat ho jaye ya ghaib se dastarkhwan utre.. ( This is because Allah has promised his help to those who do the work of his deen.. so why should it be surprising if Shaikh Sabir kalyari performs karamaat or he gets food from ghaib..) duas.. wa assalam.. |

Dr. Sahib, I have a favor to ask you. There was one thread a while back (which I can't find) where you mentioned a book on Ibn Taymiyyah by a certain research scholar who wrote a balanced scholarly critique of his differences. I'd like to know if you knew of the name of the book and its publisher. Or if you know if the book can be purchased online. Sorry to digress and hijack the thread...it's only cause' I haven't seen you around lately. |

Now all I have to do is find a translation in English. بارك الله في عمرك و في شغلك |

What I think would perhaps be the most authentic translation of the Qur'aan into English, is "Quran-e-Karim: Arabic with English Translation" by Justice Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani Saheb.
It can be downloaded from here: http://noorehidayat.org/ I don't think Mufti Taqi Saheb needs any introduction, as his in-depth `Ilm of the Deen is widely known. And as he is Deobandi, it is better to read his translation than those of the Salafi Ulama like "The Noble Qur'aan" of Professor Taqi-ud-Deen al-Hilali and Dr. Muhsin Khan, or translations like Yusuf Ali's (Which is filled with errors as was pointed out by Maulana A.S. Desai), or Shakir's, or Pickthall's, despite the fact that the english used by them is of a much higher level that that of Mufti Taqi Usmani. |

I just felt like sharing something interesting I heard that has some relevance to this thread.
Bro Maripat will find this particularly sapid. Hazrat Hamidur Rahman DB was relating a fun anecdote he is fond of . About Hazrat Abrar Ul Haq Hirdoy RA. This was the first time he came to Dhaka and after receiving him from the airport both of them were on the road to their destination. The Car came to a halt on a busy traffic stoppage as the lights turned red . The driver looked at the lights for a second and then stepped on the gas peddle driving through the traffic not waiting for the light to turn green. Hazrat Abrab tells him ' What are you doing ? the light is still Red ' in urdu Driver replied ' There is no police'. in Bangla . As Harzrat Hamidur Rahman likes to put it 'The foolish said there is no police ' Of course Hazrat Abrar did not understand the driver , so turns back and asks Hazrat Hamidur what he said. After he heard the reply he stayed quite for while . Then he said all of a sudden turning back to the Hazrat again... ' This is why ' Ilm ' is not enough , Taqwa is needed ' یہ ہے کیوں علم کافی نہیں ہے تقوی کی ضرورت ہے. ( Google Translate ) Hazrat Hamidur Rahman DB is always fond of reminding this simple sentence over and over again in his sittings . |

I just felt like sharing something interesting I heard that has some relevance to this thread. I too have heard the story many times in the Majlis. Apparently the drivers are the same everywhere because some times the story unfolds in Aligarh with slight variation. |

I dont understand the story. Sorry, but can you explain what it means? Or obedience. Obedience to the law of the country comes as a package deal. Traffic law is in it. We should obey traffic rules. Like stopping at red light and moving only when you see the green light. In India and everywhere in Asia (barring places like Singapore of Metros) people do not care about red light. They just move on as they wish. Hazrat Shak Abrar-ul-Haq Sahab Haqqi (RA) was my grand Shaikh. He was particular about his associates following law of the land. I hope this squares the things. |

Islam is about submission. What you said is 100% correct though. What I got from it is how so many people try to understand Islam through Ilm ' knowledge' ( which is important ) only , They go through the motions just like athletes go through the motions to gather a muscle memory . Your told to learn this do that and memorize such and such and follow a certain dynamics in you philosophy. Even after living their lives like that for years they might end up doing something haram . Even with individuals who follow the sunnah perfectly in their outward ( zahiri ) life , I myself felt something is missing . Its the heart , as mentioned 'Taqwa' . Got me thinking what ' Taqwa ' is in reality . Is being a person with faulty Ilm but more Taqwa better then being someone who obsesses in perfecting his Ilm but don't give attention in building up Taqwa . Gave a whole new meaning for me for ' Mindless Acquisition of Information ' . |
