Default Muslims prohibited from having Islamic states.
al-Salamu `Aleykum,

Islamic governments/parliaments have been taken down one after the other, Taliban was taken out by NATO, and Hamas which is another Islamic government was taken down by Israel and the Arabs leaders and their secularist rivals Fatah...

Recently the Kuwaiti parliament was dominated by Islamists, so what does the prince do? he dissolves the parliament and gives power to the previous un-Islamic parliament:
http://www.kuna.net.kw/ArticleDetail...81&language=en

Egypt had an Islamist dominated parliament, so what do they do? they dissolve it:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47817477.../#.T-N8obUtg4Q

What is it that we're supposed to do exactly to reach power and remain in power? are we even supposed to assume authority? Learn from your mistakes O Muslims, this is not a call to despair, but we should plan things more seriously from now on... believe it or not Egypt could be lost at this point.

Walaikum Assalam,

The Taliban is still fighting to kick NATO out, and with Dua being made by us we can hope that Sharia will be re established Sharia. And with Palestine, hamas will kick out the Zionists without hesitation soon.

و عليكم السلام

You're right.

Basically, it is a term used in Arab societies to denote Religious Muslims who participate in politics especially if they are a part of a well known Islamic party/movement.

In western media, the term 'Islamist' is usually used in a negative way. Yeah but like the brother said, it makes no sense.

It's not like the media gets theirs facts on Islam right anyway.

By Arab media, do you mean those that relay news in English, they use the term "Islamist" in a positive/neutral tone?
Is there a similar term used in their Arabic news as well?

What is needed is that which is not allowed to be expressed.

Don't ask any more because I am off to bed.

Remain firm on our Deen and just keep working to implement it. Besides the obvious, the difference between Muslims/Islamists & the secular/moderate/military (whatever they happen to be) leaders, is their resolve in ensuring once they get to power, they STAY there. That entails consolidating power at every level, most importantly the armed forces and intelligence services - because without full control of these two arms of defense, you are not going to last long at all. Actually, in this day and age, if you do not move to take control of those two arms - they will undermine you (as we see in Egypt) and may ultimately lead to downfall.

Ever notice how the military-leaders of Pakistan, Egypt, Turkey (and certain other Muslim nations) are always hopping over to consult US/NATO partners whenever there is a crisis at home that befalls them? All of this done out of sight and with little if any instruction from the national leaders. They act like a fifth column, a state within a state.

Problem is, you cannot remove these individuals without massive reprecussions. The alternative? ......Just keep working as peacefully as possible to implement reform along the lines of Sharia. If you try to take them on, Algeria style bloodshed will ensue - it won't be instigated from the so-called 'Islamists', rather the two crucial arms of defense I mention above - done in order to make the people cower away from Islam. Sincerity in duaa and Peaceful means towards reforms is the only way - anything else will lead to carnage and longterm devastation.

Allahu A'lam

inshAllah patients and work hard. Tunsia has moved forwards leaps and bounds alhamdulillah. Brotehrhood are still wrking with hikmah in egypt/. Turkey's leader is working hard to change things. once we have a few islamist governments, inshallah they will cooperate and seek to spread their alliance to other nations. dont worry, just do your bit whether it be dawah, charity, ilm, political efforts or whatever else is within your sphere of influence inshallah

Through the primacy of class struggle, education and agitation for direct-action, self-organisation and mass-assemblies these organisations are seen as "forming the structure of the new society within the shell of the old". The bit in bold is the important bit, ignore the rest. As Muslims we should not be fighting against the existing state and its order, just build our own institutions and ways inside of the existing shell. Appoint a leader, get them to Take our Zakaat. Mint Gold and Silver coins and start to use them for Zakkat payments and re-distribute them to Zakaat receipients, have Muslims accept the Silver and Gold coins for trade. The more that start doing this the more power they will gain and no violence will be necessary. Violence only empowers the current order. We should not use the word 'state' with Islam. State means a very powerful centralized government which practices riba with a central bank. Islam is government without state.

"Armed people are free. No state can control those who have the machinery and the will to resist, no mob can take their liberty and property. And no 220-pound thug can threaten the well-being or dignity of a 110-pound woman who has two pounds of iron to even things out. People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and a social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work." ~ L. Neil Smith

time for some old-school jihad. as brother umar_italy said 'years of work of tabligh (for society) can be undone in an instant by some laws promulgated by the secular rulers'
