Default Halal Entertainment for Muslim Families?
Asslamo Allaikum,

What options does a typical Muslim family trying to follow Sunnah got?

1) Take the kids to the zoo
2) Backpacking
3) Outdoor Picnics
4) Climbing, Hill walking

I never really liked concerts and lets face it this Eid Funday is similar to an outdoor concert, people clapping, making noises.

I am a bit of a Sitting by a Stream person ( to Br Tazkiyyah)

It will be very nice to visit the countryside with all the streams etc. before in pre islamic times 'city' women used to send babies to women living in the village for them to grow up fresh.

Beloved Messenger (s) was sent to Halima (ra) by his mother Aminah

I suggest singing qasaid, reading poetry.
Playing games.

Laughing over innocent jokes.

Reading innocent poems

The songs of talib al habeeb are nice

Meeting, eating and just talking about good things.

Getting away from "REFUTATION MODE" and just being good humans

Assalamu alaikum,

How about some indoor entertainment. The main thing has to be that it has to distract the mind.

^^ My mom used to play scrabble and the Nouns game (Name Place Animal Thing) with us all the time. I still play those games when my brother comes over on the long weekends. Sometimes to make it harder, we add more categories in our Nouns game. It's pretty fun and helps kids (and adults!) increase their vocabulary and general knowledge.

We ussually play scrabble or the noun game(we call it the banana game!) and we have a very big enclosed yard so we used to play hide and seek. As we grew into bookworms, we cant get our noses out of bks!

Board games are great fun for the whole family.Games like Scrabble or Islamic ones like Quran challenge or the Great Mosque or the Hadith one..it's fun and yet educational.

Though I have all the above games the kids in my family are more stuck to online games *sigh* technology has changed today's kids..

Entertainment for my family are either a beach picnic, beach bbq or just the beach lol.

Although it would depend on ages of the children, (if any) we prefer going to places like Magna science museum, Eureka (a childrens exploration centre), and museums rather than loud noisy theme parks.
We've spend many Saturdays as a family going to the Lake District and if you go to the lake that's furtherest north, Ulswater, it's very quiet and deserted. You can find a really nice secluded spot by the lake, kids paddle in the lake while dad gets the disposable barbeque going (-marinated chicken tikka and masala fish!), then a leisurely boat ride and a light trek to the top of a water fall followed by a walk in the woods. Ice creams on the way home.
The best thing about it is thats your not surrounded by shops, people, music etc. Just simple, calming nature.

For days in, we are a family of bookworms.

where are those located?

Theres a few places in the north west and not just the Lake District

Most of the places have hardly any asians let alone bearded and niqab'd women about so if you don't mind sticking out abit, they are good places.

Ive found that just smile, say hello,be pleasent and the locals can be friendly.

EDIT:

Found out where Eureka is. are there any prayer/wudhu facilities?

Eureka is in Halifax. Magna Science Museum is in Sheffield. There are no special wudhu/salah facilities but Halifax has local masaajid and Bradford is about 15-20 min drive away. We find the best thing is to just pray in a quiet corner somewhere.

With regards to 'sticking out' from the crowd, I suppose after a while you grow immune to it. Although we are anything but inconspicuous: my husband in his long white clothes, hat and beard and me in my jalbaab/niqab and all our children trailing us in their similar attire, I don't think we get many stares or comments. Or maybe we just don't notice them...

Also, for entertainment, boys of all ages will love paintballing. They can never get enough of that!

Also, I think a state of Taqwa really rests your heart so you are not always in need of constant entertainment
