Default Is it better to make du'aa to ask or make du'aa to thank?
Which is better
to make du'aa to ask Allah for something
or to supplicate to Allah and give thanks for something he already gives?
For example
If you want a car, is it better to ask Allah or a car or simply ask Allah to give the best whatever it may be

Both are different. Sometimes you have a specific need and sometimes you have a general need.

  1. A person may be in need of a wife (in general) so can make dua for a pious Muslimah
  2. A person may be in need for a specific mode of transport (i.e. a car) and a specific car (Pickup truck) for business
  3. A person may be in need for a specific mode of transport (i.e. a car) and a specific car (Pickup truck) and then a specific pickup truck (i.e. Toyota) due to high load carrying capacity and greater fuel efficiency

All needs should be submitted to Allah (SWT).

Indeed but the question is which is better?
Is it better to make du'aa for specific things?
Or is it better to make du'aa for general things?

Or is it better not to make du'aa asking for anything and just make du'aa thanking Allah and asking for something in the hereafter or a good character or good deeds..Nothing that can be possessed?
Understand my question?

The Prophet peace be on him used to make du'aa asking Allah for good deeds and told us to supplicate in the same manner..
Asking Allah for light in our hearts, and refuge from evil, and trials of this world.

Asking Allah for spiritual possessions versus asking Allah for worldly possessions is two different things right?
Should we not ask for a car but ask for wisdom in light even though we need a car?
is it better to ask Allah for what is best, because he knows what is best and what we need instead of asking him for what we think we need?

Same answer.

There is no one size fits all answer. Whatever is your need and scenario. Sometimes you may have a specific need and sometimes you may have a general need.
