Assalam O Alaikum!

At what price Prophet Yusuf (A.S.) was sold ... ?

Allah (SWT) says in the Qur'aan:

[12:20] And they sold him for a paltry price, for a few silver-coins, and they had not much interest in him.

In Tafseer Ibn Katheer (RA) the amount of silver coins is written to be:

  1. 20 according to the narration of Sayyidina Abdullah Ibn Masood (RA)
  2. Between 22 and 40 according to other narrations

Allah (SWT) knows best.

According to the Torah; he was sold for 20 pieces of silver

Genesis 37:28 "So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt"

Kindly do not quote the sources of the Jews and christians. There are a lot of criteria laid down by the ulema if at all one wants to quote them.

If the Torah on this issue agrees with the Quran and Hadith.

Then what's the problem?

Wasn't the Torah the first revelation??

Rasoolullah specifically had an order regarding this:

Abu Hurayrah (ra) said, “The people of the Scripture (Jews) used to recite the Torah in Hebrew and explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. On that, the Messenger of Allaah , said, "Do not believe the people of the Scripture or disbelieve them, but say: {We believe in Allaah and what is revealed to us.}[Quran 2:136].”

[Al-Bukhaari]

Al-Bazzaar on the authority of Jaabir(ra). He said, “‘Umar copied part of the Torah in Arabic, brought it to the Prophet , and began to read it to him. As he read, the Prophet’s face changed color. One of the men of the Ansaar said, "Woe to you Ibn Al-Khattaab! Can you not see the face of the Messenger of Allaah?’ Thereupon, the Prophet , said, ‘Do not ask the People of the Book about anything for they will not guide you when they have gone astray. (If you listen to them) You will either disbelieve in what is right or believe in what is false. By Allaah, if Moses had been alive today, he would have been obliged to follow me.’”

I agree

But what if I just wanna learn those things only the sake of my knowledge. Would that be sinful too?

Please read what you just posted.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said do not let the People of the Book "teach" you.

He do not say to disregard or ignore what the Torah said.

Big difference!!

There is nothing silly about my position.

When the Torah "agrees" with the Quran and Hadith on a subject.

How can you disregard that and mock it as untrue??

No Yusuf (as) was thrown into a well by his brothers, some travellers found him in the well and sold him in the market as slave.

P.s. We do not take our deen from Shi'ites.

Edit: the concerned verses in Suratul Yusuf:

So when they took him [out] and agreed to put him into the bottom of the well... (Verse 15)

And there came a company of travelers; then they sent their water drawer, and he let down his bucket. He said, "Good news! Here is a boy." And they concealed him, [taking him] as merchandise; and Allah was knowing of what they did. (19) And they sold him for a reduced price - a few dirhams - and they were, concerning him, of those content with little. (20)

Apparently, you still don't understand what I am saying.

No, we should not allow the Christians or the Jews to personally "guide" or "teach" us.

But there is no problem in reading the Torah and accepting it's words on issues where it agrees with the Quran and Sunnah.

Dude, read that hadith again. Rasoolullah got angry at Umar (ra) for refering the Torah! If there was no problem reading the Torah, why did Rasoolullah become angry?

And He said: "...they will not guide you when they have gone astray. (If you listen to them) You will either disbelieve in what is right or believe in what is false."

Is disbelieving in right and believing in false a good thing? Definitely not. Well its what will happen if we refer the torah and injeel, because its not clear to us which is true and which is false in these corrupted books. Comprendez?

First of all my name is not Dude.

I thought that was very rude. (kinda rhymes don't it)

Secondly, we don't know what exactly the person was reading out of the Torah? But obviously, it was something the Prophet ppbuh found offensive.

As to the verse we have been discussing; the Quran and the Torah are in agreement.

So I see No problem in accepting this verse of the Torah as supporting the Quran and not corrupted.
