Default BEWARE while seeking knowledge, It might lead us to HELL..! Auzhubillah.

I would like to remind ourselves 4 Hadith:

1.
Rasulullah said:
"Do not attain learning in order to express pride before the ulema (scholars),
nor by its help quarrel with foolish people,
nor through it try to overwhelm meetings,
but he who does so, his destination is fire."

[Ibn Majah]
2. A part of the narration of a lengthy Hadith:

Abu Hurayrah, who said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah say,
‘ Verily, the first to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be....

..... Next a man who had acquired and imparted knowledge and read the Qur’an will be brought forward, Allah will remind him of the favours He had bestowed upon him and the man will acknowledge them.

Then He will ask him: `What did you do to express gratitude for it?’

The man will reply: `I acquired knowledge and taught it, and read the Qur’an for Your sake.’

Allah will say to him: `You have lied. You acquired knowledge so that people might call you a learned (man), and you read the Qur’an so that they might call you a reciter, and they have done so.’

Command will then be issued about him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.....

[Muslim]
For the full hadith: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...l=1#post595808

3. Always remember this Hadith:
“Verily, actions are judged by intentions”

4. Finally the Dua our beloved Rasoolullah used to recite for protection against knowledge that won't benefit us.

Our intentions are often polluted with Riya (show off). We should be careful to check our intentions time to time. Riya is a minor shirk and it invalidates the good deed.

Ahmed reported on the authority of Ubay b. Ka'ab with a hasan Isnad that the Prophet said:
"Give good tidings to this ummah of splendor, high ranks, victory and strengthening.
Whoever of them worked the deeds of Akhirah for the sake of the world,
he would not have any share/reward in the akhirah."

Abu Umamah Al-Bahili (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,

"I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right;
and I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun;
and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners.''

The Messenger of Allah said,
"Who takes the path hoping for knowledge, Allah makes easy for him the path to Paradise.
Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge out of pleasure of what he is doing.
Verily all in the heavens and earth seek forgiveness for the knowledgeable, even the fish in the water.
The excellence of the knowledgeable over the servant is like the excellence of the moon on the night of the full moon over all the planets.
Verily, the learned are the heirs of the Prophets, the Prophets do not leave dinar or dirham, but they are inherited in knowledge, and he who takes it takes a great bounty."

it should be and it shouldnt be hard for a pro programmer. i was quite impressed when filling the reg form they made you aware that you shd be honest. every other day you see people earning sins by getting infuriated over threads, getting personal, back biting, slander and what not. people say the most ridiculous things sometimes. and these conversations are such that they would not have taken place face to face. so i just feel that whenever someone is posting something several short ahadith should come into view on the left and right panels. that way they would be warned and several people might actually calm down or think about the authenticity of their claims. think of the sawaab the mods will earn
i do hope this gets implemented somehow.

Assalam alaykum,

Thank you for this thread. The pursuit of knowledge is a very good thing, but with knowledge comes great responsibility, as it can be used to tear down or to build up. Knowledge combined with humility is a sign of great character. Good manners and making excuses for the faults of others covers over many sins. Knowledge plus wisdom is very commendable. Sometimes wisdom is demonstrated by constraint and modesty. Also, when we slip up, I have noticed that an apology can change the entire tone of a disagreement.

A famous saying of scholars is " مَن لَم يُتْقن الأُصُول حُرمَ الوُصُول " which means,
"He who does not master the basics is forbidden from achieving."

[Quote from Tathkirah As-Saami’ wa al-Mutakallim, in the book: Al-Majmoo’ah Al-’Ilmiyyah, Bakr bin
Abdillah, Abu Zayd, Dar Al-’Aasimah, Riyadh, p. 154.]

Dangers of trying to make Home made Fatwas just reading a few Hadith or
Dangers of trying to derive the interpretation of Quran from ones own opinion without knowledge:

learning it is harder than seeking it,
applying it is harder than learning it, and
remaining safe from it is even harder than applying it."

Subhanna Allah.

Citing Hamza Yusuf in this matter diminishes its relevance.

Who has authority to authenticate and authoritatively establish the level of knowledge of a khatib or lecturer or scholar in a masjid or in the Muslim community?

By making this claim, he gives credility to the US govt and other govts who seek to control the thoughts and ideas within the Muslim community. If its not from an authorized 'shaykh', then its not acceptable.

And govts seek to control authoritization to retain and sustain their own authority.

Sadly, Hamza Yusuf makes the case for the govts of the world to continue repression of Islamic thought.

All he is saying is Laymen shouldn't discuss/debate on things which they do not have proper understanding of. Fatwas should be left to Scholars.

How does that empower U.S. Govt ?

People should learn to stand before running. We have people here who doesn't know Arabic grammar who debate on in-depth Aqeedah here from english translations found on the internet. lol. We don't want that.

If its not from an authorized 'shaykh', then its not acceptable. Thats not something new. Even before U.s.a was found this was how Islamic scholars dealt this matter. A self-learned scholar is not taken seriously and is prone to mistakes. If you take the history of the best scholars of Islam they all learned under different teachers. Very few are self-learned.

Brother,
He is NOT saying this in a vacuum of all things being equal. This lecture was done AFTER 9/11, correct?

He has advocated a minority fiqh adoption which promotes the idea that Muslims in America should cater to American cultural integration and assimilation.

The reality is superior ideas and thoughts should authoritatively become superior. And it is expected that people of superior knowledge should advocate these superior ideas and thoughts.
Such as the resumption of Islam as an Islamic state. Such as defending Muslims from enemies- not submitting to enemies.

Leadership emerges from leading. Its false to presume that authority should resides in an inherit 'class' of scholars.
There is NO clergy in Islam.
Its the enemies of Islam who want to CREATE a clergy by which they can control the Ummah and change Islam.

Sadly, Islamic schools, universities, tariqas, were targets of teh colonizers when then conquered Muslim lands. Schools such as al Azhar were taken over and their personnel changed, philosophy, mission, and academic processes were altered to generate 'ulama' who would NOT lead by Islam, rather cater to imperial rule, or at least be mute on important issues, like liberation from kufr rule and resumption of Islam.
