Salaamu alaiykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu
I know I'm not a famous individual in this forum but I do love to contribute to it by the will of Allah and I would love people to corporate. I want this thread to be a thread of practical ideas (i.e.things which we can do despite living in this modern world) on how to solve the problems that are facing the ummah today. If it has already been produced, then why is it not still active? Threads like these should be made sticky. This would cover the topic of drugs, alcohol, doubts in iman through contemporary academia, sufferings around the world due to both natural and man made calamities, the unheard voice of converts, culture, procrastination and laziness, pretty much everything that affects the ummah on a large scale possibly including everyone in this forum. So what do you think? We can arrange activities to do in each of our areas and then report back here and discuss how to improve etc. It may seem far fetched but a muslim should have confidence and tawakul in Allah that he will make him/her achieve that big thing. |

Brother, it sounds like you are summarizing the entire forum. I speak for myself in saying that it isn't that I'm ignoring your request nor do I have any ill feelings about you, I just feel that what you're suggesting is already covered throughout the forum. What you're suggesting is what the forum in general already does and the threads you've listed already exist (some of them, more than once). So it seems like you are suggesting a forum and not a thread. I may have misunderstood... if so, I apologize and ask that you please explain the purpose of the thread a little more. |

Alhamdullilah, some responses. I thought it would be different to other threads in that it can be a bit more practical and organised e.g. we can use this thread to plan and organise things to do in our own area which will help the many problems facing the ummah, and use this thread to report back, make changes etc. I thought it would be a great idea because:
1 - It is a thread in which we all decide what the topic should be - many heads are more effective in deciding the most urgent of situations. 2 - Such steps in unison will be largely effective due to each member being able to cover each different part of the world e.g. we have brothers from pakistan, india, bangladesh, UK, America, etc. 3 - We will be able to recieve feedback and help from people of different fields present in this forum, whether it be islamic, science, communication etc. I like to remain confident and I won't be surprised if this little thread changed situations around the world by a large amount. But it would be helpful if many are also confident. |

Masha'Allah brother I do think your intentions are very noble here, you just need to 'iron out' the idea a bit and Insha'Allah we can all accomplish that together. What I foresee to be an issue is that you basically want this one thread to be a compendium of any and every issue facing the Ummah today, plus plans of actions for everyone to help fix that issue in their locality, etc. IMO this would lead to one very confusing thread which is about "everything". For example, if I am helping with issue "X", how will I sift through the entire thread where issues A-Z are also being discussed, in addition to my issue "X"... how will the thread be organized so I can go straight to my issue without having to read 131 other posts? That's not to the say that those 131 posts would not be important, not that at all, but rather they would take away from the focus of the issue I have taken personal responsibility to work towards. So, what I'm proposing is a separate thread for each one of these issues. But again, so many of them already exist on the forum, so not the best idea to just start making new threads left and right with "issues". Here are some ideas off the top of my head: - Maybe start a thread asking everyone what they think are the biggest issues facing the Ummah today. That's it. Only the "what", not the "why, when, where, how, who", etc. Not how we go about fixing them. Just a simple thread where brothers and sisters respond with a very brief reply describing what they feel is a big issue facing the Ummah today. Now you may get people saying things like "I feel the biggest issue facing the Ummah today is that by some estimates not even 5% of the world Muslim population is making salat 5 times a day" (IMO if this one sole issue is fixed, Allah's help would come to take care of everything else, Insha'Allah), others may say it's poverty, both among Muslim and non-Muslim nations, yet others may say it's lack of awareness and knowledge towards general Islamic principles which are causing our own brothers and sisters from the Ummah to act the way they do, etc, etc. These are just some examples. - Now you take the issues which get raised and you do some research to see if they are/have already been discussed on the forum. If a thread already exists where the given issue is/was being discussed, you can try to revive that thread Insha'Allah and/or then make a new one if you feel it would serve the purpose better. - If no thread is found discussing the issue, then you start a new one for that particular issue only, and then that issue is discussed and plans are made to address that specific issue within each brother and sister's locality, etc. - You would need the help of the moderators to keep any of these threads 'clean' because sadly what happens more often than not is the usual name-calling and "bid'ah accusing" and "you're a this and that" and "you're a ______ (fill in your favorite title which sounds really cool but most of us don't know what it means)", etc etc. I have started some threads which I thought served a good purpose and I have ended up asking the mods to delete the entire thread because they got out of control and I didn't want to be the facilitator of some of the things people started saying to each other. Obviously that's no reason to give up on doing something but rather just something which needs to be said and kept an eye on. Insha'Allah we can try to iron out the ideas in your OP even further from this point. Lastly, if you ask me, though it may sound narrow-minded to some, I do feel that the main issue/problem facing the Ummah today is that we have completely forgotten about Salat (Namaz). The one who makes salat 5X a day is considered completely "out of the ordinary", even within their own families, and is given titles (sarcastically and jokingly) such as "namazi", "molvi", "maulana sahab", "pious man", etc. It should not be as such and rather the person who does not make salat should be the one who is out of the ordinary. Alhamdulillah, I've made it a point now to joke back (well, not really joking either) with anyone who calls me such names, and tell them to call me those names even more, so maybe Insha'Allah I will one day really become a "pious man" and whatever else "nice" names they call me. How can we expect any other issue to be solved when we're not even fulfilling the purpose of our creation which is to worship our Creator, Allah ? Alhamdulillah, movements like TJ are helping make a difference but I do think we could ALL (those 'involved' with TJ or not) do way, way, way more to help make a difference with this. So, to me, that would be the first issue on the list in response to your OP. May Allah give all of us the same, intense fikr (concern) for the entire Ummah and for all of mankind as has been expressed in the OP. Ameen. |

in order to have a successful plan and to have people participate in it with you, you need to be receptive of feedback and suggestions. |

brother but I am still having a little bit of a problem understanding the practicality of it so maybe it would help if you started it off with the first suggestion and insha'Allah that will help generate responses and provide a clearer picture of the purpose (at least for me). |

I was waiting for active brothers like you lol. Guys like you will be the driving force and strength of this plan inshallah. The idea is not that we assign different tasks to different people, but the SAME task to EVERYONE. Once we've pretty much got everything sorted and the plan is underway and going smoothly (which may take months or years - yeah we're talking big) we can then go to another issue and all of us will tackle it within our community inshallah. If issues do come up of tasks that were assigned a while ago, we will halt our discussions and tend that matter first. The reason I want this to be one thread is that I want it to suit one purpose - practicality and creative ideas (in solving the common problems of the muslim ummah). What I don't want is a scattering of different threads which will completely take over the visible section of the "What's new" list (which is quite unfair for others) and I want this thread to be fresh and active (hence I decided to not look for those old threads which have died out). I wouldn't really call this effort a sincere one (Allah knows best) - I just love being active so may Allah forgive me for just basing this thread on those reasons. That's why I hoped maybe the piety of people like you would install the blessings of this work despite this insincerity. Anywho....yes I completely like your idea. We will make tawakul on Allah inshallah that this work will be successful and results are dependent upon Allah, so I don't worry what might happen here. So let us start with the "what". Here goes nothing... Okay everyone, what do you think is the most important issue we need to fix within the ummah. Is it the salah like the brother pointed out? Or is it the poverty? Or is it the modern day academia? |

Okay... I think I'm getting it now - not a simply q&a type thread. Masha'Allah the intent and purpose is really good!
The question on 'what' is really big for me to think of a single thing... I have a feeling answers will vary depending on locations since many factors will have an impact on what the Muslims in a given place are facing as the 'most important problem' in their area. So, insha'Allah for now I'll read replies to the thread. It would be great if we could get some demographic info up too. |
