Well alhamdullilah I can say I'm not addicted in the least, weeks even months will go by without me even clicking on this website. It cannot be a healthy addiction, whoever said that needs their head checked. It is so sad to see that there are people who actually LIVE here,Iwon't name names. What a waste of life! How can sitting on one's bottom for hours on end, daily partaking in qeela waqaala, cyberfights between this or that group be healthy?? Spiritually or physically it is damaging to one's health. Go out exercise, get a social life and see the wonderful world out there o ye recluses!

It is a healthy addiction compared to other internet time wasting websites. Although there is much to say on this forum, you do learn new things day by day. Some people don't have much contacts in the real world (like women) so SF becomes a healthy alternative.
That being said, we must learn to live without this forum ie no stress if servers are overloaded

Wassalamu 'alaykum.

In our days we used to spend time only on SF... we used to browse and post on the forum and in the back end chat on messengers about the forum..

Your post number at the moment is just 23. The current SF mujahids can produce 32 in a day. You still have to work hard.

High level post. Internet forums sadly take place of actual community. Also the level of knowledge gained here is superficial at best, without any real depth, and must be verified before one should follow it, since there are hardly any ulama here any more that post. Shaikh Nazim Mangera, how I miss you! At least I have his brother close by.

You are breaking my heart akhi. I have learned so much from the brothers and sisters here. Reality a lot. Of course this place is not a substitute for a Jamia. Nor for actual communities. But then there is something here that is not available at either of the two former locations.

That's exactly what I meant.

Nowadays you have kids who email mufties seeking help because they are addicted to porn sites and other filth like drugs etc. This isn't even something that is rare, it's very common. This was one reason why Moulana Yunus Patel saheb was constantly talking about these things.

So yes, compared to that, if someone is so called addicted to SunniForum, good for them. At least they are 'addicted' to something Islamic. Allah protected him/her from a whole lot of filth.

That is true, there is no doubt when compared to what people could be involved in, this seems to be far worse.

The only problem I can think is that, while most Muslims know porn, drugs, etc, are sins and usually (though not always) have extreme guilt and try to change (or atleast hate what they are doing), there are some dangerous things surrounding this forum that have come up time and time again.

- speaking without knowledge
- backbiting and at times slander
- mocking other Muslims (and at times ulama)
- argumentation and debate among lay people over religious issues
- conjecture
- even takfir

So while the other types of addictions which most Muslims know are evil and are ashamed of, the evils which surround online forums in general and religiously focused forums specifically are usually brushed away as minor or the nafs can even make the person think that they are doing something good.

Take an example; many people here easily accuse other Muslims a being engaged in bid'ah, or even shirk (take the istimdad issue, or the mawlid issue) very casually. IF they were actually in front, face to face with the person, say a scholar that holds istimdad to be permissable, I doubt highly that they would say to them "you are a bidati" or "you are engaged in shirk." They may try to make a point, BUT they would do it differently, I am certain of this.

I am not addicted either, but have had some tendencies in the past to other websites. I agree with what you have said, unfortunately the real social world out there lacks a community...there are not many opportunities to meet with like minded people who one can meet and discuss things with and I live in one of the most Muslim populated cities in the world. Much of the discussions one is forced to participate in are superficial and do not feed the soul or the intellect.

And it is such a blessing to reach this realization itself.

Salaamu alaiykum
May Allah make all your actions full of content and peaceful to you and pleasing to Allah SWT. Sunniforum is indeed a good tool for those who are by themselves and have plenty of free time, as these are the most vulnerable to sins as you have discussed (and also vulnerable to be misguided due to them not interacting with the muslim ummah). I hope though it is just a stepping stone at times of need and not something which they think they can spend their whole life upon. The addiction is good (I might have one) but still not comparable to addiction of quran, islamic lectures, sports/fitness, helping people out, gaining knowledge (whether deen or non-deen related) etc. I think the last three mentioned are addictions which people can get without much effort. May Allah give strength and activity to the muslim ummah.

Sunniforum is an Islamic community that I feel some may not have access to in their real world, and contains a lot of knowledge we may not be able to find outside of the internet. So no wonder some of us spend so much time on here. I check this forum every time I come online

I call it a healthy addiction (oxymoron or not) because a person could just as soon have been addicted to something non Islamic, like so many in the world are.
SF should not lead to random surfing of thread and debating.
lets get addicted to salah and dhikr in sha Allah

you know you are addicted to Sunniforum when...

you tell yourself that you won't go on it for a few months as you have many other pressing things to do...

and you put everything from Sunniforum in the spam...

....

and then a few days later you say well I'll just have a look....

and the next minute you are posting again
