can any one recommend good book on tasawwuf, which is brief?
This book is written by my DadaPir Maulana Masihullah Khan Jalaalbadi (rah), Khalifah of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rah). Inshallah, this book will be very beneficial.

May Allah SWT shower His peace and mercy upon you all.

this very question played in my mind this week... i don't have any specific Sheikh, as a guide. And whenever i ask questions about finding my own Sheikh i am told that: 'the Sheikh finds you!', that's all well said, but what do i do in the mean time....?!

Any advice will be highly appreciated! thanx

Assalam alaikum.

As far as I know, it was Mawlay al-Arabi al-Darqawi who said "Whoever wishes to travel the Path of suluk without a shaykh, the shaytan is his shaykh". He was referring to those people who take their tasawwuf from books.

Having a shaykh in suluk is really emphasized. Even Ibn Abidin had a Naqshbandi shaykh, which shows the top-most 'ulema are in need of a shaykh as well, so what about the common people...
Well said. Just as we have a doctor to take care of our physical sicknesses, we need a doctor (Shaikh) to take care of our spiritual sicknesses. Also, a spiritual sickness is more detrimental than a physical sickness.

Therefore, we all need a milk shaikh from Baskin-Robbins

ok...that was corny

Brother i know that to have a shaykh is not fard but to achieve islah without a shaykh is very hard, specially nowadays. Therefore i think to have a shaykh is neccesary in present era and one should get bayah to such a shaykh that he thinks it will benefit him the most. Another thing to remember is that to get bayah and not to get islah done is also useless.
Yes i do agree that we should not have this aqeedah that whoso ever does not have a shaikh then his shaikh is shaytan.
Agree with you 100%.

Brother Deobandi put it very nicely. I would vehemently beg to differ with those who say that it's a must to have a shaikh.

Br. Shyakhs Pir Sahib, are you whipped? cause i am

yes. this is not part of aqeeda but it is saying of sufiya e salf that whoso ever does not have a sheikh then his sheikh is shaitan.
so if someone has no sheikh please start find sheikh. sheikh must know what is the cure for this mureed. and mureed has to follow his sheikh 100percents

once this guy came to my house for advice from my dad. his father(who is a very respected scholar) had told him that whoever does not have a shaikh his shaikh is shaytan.
you have to look for the shaikh. if you show a keen interest Allah will guide you towards the right shaikh inshallah.

Iam not a full time student when say he is my Shaykh in Tasfeer,Hadith and Fiqh, it is these branches of knowledge which Shaykh does in hes Dars for everyone in the masjid and i also benefitted from them.
They are other Mashallah serious full time students who have studied with Shaykh in the Dar-Uloom who now are Ulema.
Ok, brother, jazakallah for posting that and i do want to clear myself. I am also not a full time student for Tasfeer,Hadith and Fiqh. Hazrat Mufti Nawalur Rahman Sahib does Dars in the madressah for awaam (regular people) and I attend that, but also Hazrat Muft Sahib does teach classes of Tasfeer,Hadith and Fiqh, etc. to regular full time student.

My shaykh in sulook, tafsir, hadith, fiqh, arabic, and life in general is me wife
me too

i am quite positive that women do not require the same magnitude of spritual purification that men do. i believe women have purer hearts generally.
