A beautiful compilation on Dr Tamins' blog....

Taken from the blog...

Abu Bakr (RA) used to say that accountability was a great challenge for man. Once he entered a garden where he saw a ringdove sitting on a tree. Seeing the bird, Abu Bakr (RA) heaved a deep sigh, and said: "Happy you are O bird, that eats of the trees and seeks shelter beneath them, and are not called to account. Would that I were like you?"

Mashallah very nice post.

Further to this; Reaction to praise: Once, someone highly praised Abu Bakr. After the man who praised him had left, Abu Bakr prayed to God: "O Allah, You know me more than myself, and I know myself more than these people who praise me. Make me better than what they think of me, and forgive those sins of mine of which they have no knowledge, and do not hold me responsible for what they say."

Is the dua available in Arabic? anyone got access to it?

While condoling the death of a companion, Abu Bakr said to the bereaved family: "There is no harm in patience, and no profit in lamentation. Death is easiest to bear than that which precedes it, and more severe than that which comes after it. Remember the death of the Apostle of God, and your sorrow will be lessened. "

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Whenever I invited anyone to accept Islam, he argued with me and rejected my words at the outset except the son of Abu Quhafah (Abu Bakr). He accepted it immediately and stayed steadfast in it.”

I have for some time now been thinking about creating a similar thread to this one, which was set up by our very own, in house doctor, Abu Tamin, about the life & times of the greatest man, after Hazrat Muhammed , Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (RA).

The inspiration for this came from seeing that, we have a sticky thread dedicated to Hazrat Muhammed , which is a great imaan booster, when one feels low, and I believe that myself & others will greatly benefit from having a focal point to read about these personalities, who sacrificed everything they could, to further the call of Islam.

In the long term, , we can create threads regarding other Khulaf-e-Rashdeen (RA), the companions of our beloved Nabi , Ummu l-Mu’minin (RA), and other great personalities. If the idea clicks on, this thread should be made into a sticky, and I ask all contributors that when posting, please provide references, so that others users, if they so wish, can delve further into other posts.

I will contribute more, after Ramadhan,

Dr Tamin, Moderators, all other brothers & sisters, what do you think?

I will do later,

Jundub narrates: I heard the Prophet five days before his death saying: "I declare my innocence before Allah that I should have any bosom friend among you for Allah Most High has taken me as His friend just as He took Ibrahim as His friend. If I were to take any bosom friend from my nation I would take Abu Bakr. Listen! Those who came before you took the graves of their prophets and their righteous ones as places of worship. Listen! Do not take graves as places of worship. I forbid you that."
Sahih Muslim

Hazrat Muhammed , once remarked, regarding Abu Bakr (RA);

" Abu Bakr's name shall be called out from all the gates of Paradise, and he will be the first to enter of my followers to enter it"
Even having known this, Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA), used to say, out of fear of Allah ;

" I wish I were a tree that would be cut & done away with."

I wish I were a blade of grass, whose life ended with the grazing by some beast."

One anecdote I'd like to verify is about Abu Bakr (ra) keeping a pebble in his mouth to prevent unnecessary talking. He would take it out when talking about necessary things. I was told this when I was a boy.

I couldn't find any references to it though. I once heard Sh. Husain Abdul Satar's podcast which told about something similar but different, that the Sahabah used to dhikr all the time, it was always on their lips, so that they had to keep a pebble in their mouth when going to the toilet so that they wouldn't do dhikr while doing it.
