First, I'm a muslim. I try to do the 5 pillars
I pray (5 times a day) I'll die by the shahada I fast I hope to go to mecca (I haven't yet) and I (don't have a job yet) but I'd love to give to the poor. I'm 16, I just got back into praying and don't want to sin. I don't masturbate often, I haven't in 4 days. Is masturbation haram if only done every couple days. After masturbation you don't have sexual thoughts for days. It's fairly helpful. I don't want to sin though. The other thing is Sura 6:119 says "And why should you not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned while He has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, excepting that to which you are compelled. And indeed do many lead [others] astray through their [own] inclinations without knowledge. Indeed, your Lord - He is most knowing of the transgressors." Basically, if something isn't explicitly in the Qur'an forbidden then it isn't haram right? Please help me I don't want to sin. |

السلام عليكم
Welcome to the forums brother, and may Allah SWT reward you for asking about something which you are having doubts about. Masturbation in Islam is Haraam. There is nothing in the Qur'aan/Hadeeth (that I know of) which explicitly refers to masturbation itself as being Haraam, but the ruling is derived from an aayah of the Qur'aan or a hadeeth, I forget which. I don't know the exact reference or wording for that matter, but someone else Inshaa Allah can provide it, but it mentions how people should marry to keep themselves chaste, and for those who don't have the means or cannot get married should fast and control themselves. The only way to satisfy your desires that has been mentioned is to get married, failing that a person should fast to control himself and from that scholars have derived the ruling that masturbation is Haraam, whether it involves pornography or not. Others more knowledgeable can shed more light Inshaa Allah. |

I think most men and women know about the “ruling” on masturbation, i.e. that it is haram to do it.
The scholars have looked at the Quran and hadeeth and have derived these rulings. It is interesting to note that even when you are married, masturbation is haram in the marriage bed. You can get your spouse to touch you, but you are again not allowed to touch yourself. Sometimes it is more helpful to think laterally on the topic as well as knowing the rulings. For example, when passions are running high it sometimes feels impossible to avoid the haram. BUT it is possible to avoid the haram if we change our outlook and feelings inshallah. FIRST of all, avoid all the things that arouse your feelings. E.g. don’t look at women, avoid places where women are scantily clad (like beaches at peak time), avoid watching TV shows with attractive women etc. If your feelings are not aroused it is very, very easy to avoid this sin, inshallah. SECONDLY, IF you do feel your passions increasing it is a good idea to go to the bathroom to wash your face to cool down. And start remembering ALLAH by doing a lot of dhikr, like astaghfirullah, auzobillah, la hawla wa la quwwata, etc. THIRDLY, IF you do find yourself about to do the haram act, think about your body. We know that on yaumal qiyamah every part of our body will speak on its own behalf on how it was misused. Imagine your hands and private parts crying and speaking against you on yaumul qiyamah, saying how you misused them and abused them. INSHALLAH you will succeed. ALLAH is Merciful and Most-Forgiving if we turn to him after trying our best. The body also has a natural way of releasing pent up passions through wet dreams so do not worry about building up too much passion and needing to release it off every few days. The body will naturally release it for you. |
