That's a complete violation of privacy. I think not only the muslims will have a problem with this, but also the non-muslims (read the comments in that site). It would be funny though to see how they (the public) will respond to this, because I think I can manage with that, whereas those who constantly (i.e. just do it without control) look at things which are obscene, filthy and secret (you know what I mean), then they will have to do something about it.

It is all British. They are well known to be impartial.

It is the basic idea that there is danger, risk and insecurity and we need to be protected by the state. Of course the state itself and the people who work within it are considered to be perfect ethical beings and them having access to this information is not risky.

The danger from the state is greater, than from any other group. The state can move into a huge totalitarian mode of operation in no time at all. And it looks like it is heading in that direction.

Allah swt does not approve of spying and we are told to cover our faults from others, because Allah swt has hidden it.

They perfectly well know it.
In fact they have been thinking of such dangers in a big way for a long time.
George Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm were about these things and ensuing horrors only.
It is strange how badly they take their own medicine.
And it looks like it is heading in that direction. May Allah(SWT) protect believers from these machinations of satanic minds.

Perhaps muslims should learn the art of telepathy.

no one's going to stop people (legally) doing what they normally do anyway. I can't see how this stops freedom. Maybe privacy yes but freedom???

Well... freedom can easily be taken through such privacy-invasive measures. As we saw in the FBI piece just recently, all it takes is a few words... just a few words and they don't even need to necessarily be in context as long as they are captured. Then the false powers that be, twist and turn, manipulate those words to mean whatever it is they intend for it to mean. If it is too peaceful and quiet, they feel uneasy and look for something to keep them busy. If political change is imminent or the false powers that be deem it necessary to stir things up a bit, then they do... that's when it doesn't matter who you are, what you really said or meant. They'll find connections and if they can't they'll invent them.

That said, there really is no point in living in fear of this. Let them toil away in their deceptive, harassing, rude, immoral ways. Truth will ultimately prevail [edit: and in some cases, not likely through the present legal systems.].

hope I didn't sound rude when I said that, but brother I believe they have been watching "us" already (unofficially) for many years, and the current law will only make this legal as they are not allowed to present evidence obtained illegaly in a court of law.

If people think when they are on the phone and no one else could be listening are naive, i'm not saying it could be just enforcement forces, it could be say an employee of the telephone provider, listening in for his/her own entertainment.

You're completely right, and that is why you have to deposit your mobile when you visit one hot security-related area, not just switch it off.

It was indeed a pertinent information.

Okay... so, is anyone else here getting these strange 'prank' phone calls recently? Especially ones where the 'message' is what we've been discussing here... "what if the government was reading your e-mails... what if the government was listening to your phone calls... etc. etc."?

Just got another 'prank' call and I'm getting really tired of it... if there is a point to these calls, it is lost on me. They are a minor nuisance.

Anyone else getting them?

Or even the States. The number shows up as a 'California' number. Likely unrelated to SF but still, very odd.

do you think it could be from anyone who you know in real life who is on here? (i.e. a simple prankster?)

if you suspect that you are being harassed by some sort of government agency then you should go to a human rights group with your case.

if you can tape the calls as evidence then you can even go to the police as harassment by the telephone is obviously not legal.

It was dicovered late last year that a stealthy program was installed by default on every phone that can track any pressed keys on your mobile phone. It wasn't on by default, but the program can be activated remotely and the data will be sent to one company in California. Search youtube on how to check if your phone has that program installed, and if so, how to deactivate the program.

Allah Knows Best.
