I recently bought 'Naqsh-e-Hayat', Shaykh-ul-Islam Husain Ahmad Madni ra autobiography and 'Meray walid meray Shaykh', a biography of Mufti-e-Azam Pakistan, Mufti Muhammad Shafi ra, written by his esteemed son, Mufti Taqi Usmani. Both are excellent and very awe-inspiring. Highly recommended for those who want to learn about the history and mizaaj of Akabir ulema-e-Deoband.

What a coincidence ... I've been reading the same two books recently!

I absolutely love love and love Naqsh-e-Hayat. Subhanallah, I read it in around 1998. Subhanallah, an absolute must. You've got read it to believe it. I've always felt encouraged to translate it. I wish someone will.

Will have to get hold of Mereh Walid Mereh Shaykh insha Allah.

Autobiographies by the Akabir themselves are beautiful to read. They're very spontaneous. Naqsh-e-Hayat, Aap Beeti by Hadhrat Shaykh Zakariyyah and Aap Beeti by Mawlana Abdul Majid Daryabadi are three autobiographies I know of. Anyone know anymore let me know.

Also a nice book is Hadhrat Ali Miyah's biography of Mawlana Abdul Qadir Raipuri (Allah's mercy on them all).

I also don't have a Naqsh-e-Hayat. I borrowed an old copy that was at the madressa where I studied. I saw some recent copies that were in computer Urdu print. But the font just doesn't tickle my fancy. I prefer the old handwritten books. Feels much nicer.

I'm also looking for Shihab. In fact for quite some time. A South African Molwi Saheb told me that Darul Uloom Azadville has printed it again under the care of Mawlana Fazlur Rahman Saheb there.

Although I have only managed to read the first 50 pages out of 700+, I found it very inspiring and felt an ever increasing love and respect for Shaykhul Islam Madni ra. I had purchased 'prisoners of Malta' prior to that and was deeply moved by the struggle of Shaykh al-Hind ra and Maulana Madni ra. I always wanted to read about their struggle against the British in Urdu so I bought Naqsh-e-Hayat.

Alhamdollilah, I have Aap Beeti, Tazkirat-ur-Rasheed (biography of Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi ra), Sawanah-e-Mufakir-e-Islam (biography of Maulana Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi ra), Maulana Ilyas ra aur Unki Deeni Dawat, and Naqoosh-e-Raftagan (short biographies of recent Deobandi scholars of note) by Mufti Taqi Usmani ra.

These books have only reinforced my belief that Allah had blessed our akabir with his and his beloved nabi's (peace and blessings be upon him) unflinching love. Their pure lives were a testament to this fact. Truly, if someone is worthy of being called 'Auliya Allah', it is this group of selfless individuals who through their speech and action changed the lives of so many. Some aspects of their lives are enough to overwhelm a person and make him cry.....

Will have to get hold of Mereh Walid Mereh Shaykh insha Allah.

Mereh Walid Mereh Shaykh is not a biography per se. It was an article written by Hadhrat Mufti Taqi sahib for a special edition of Al-Balagh dedicated to Hadhrat Mufti Shafi' sahib In it, he discusses Hadhrat Mufti sahib's 'Ilmi Mizaj and his salient characteristics. It has now been published as a book, 175 pages long.

Hadhrat Mufti Rafi' 'Uthmani has written his father's biography, entitled Hayat-e-Mufti A'zam.

As we're on the subject, I would recommend Hadhrat Mufti Taqi sahib's Akaabir-e-Deoband Kiya They? It is an amazing read and an authentic glimpse into the lives of the Akabir. It was probably Hadhrat Mufti Taqi sahib's first Urdu book that I had read.

I recently started purchasing books from the Madania's bookstore. If you can read Urdu, they have the best collection that I have seen so far in the United States. If you are into tasawwuf, they have the ultimate collection of Maulana Thanwi's ra books such as Anfaas-e-Eesa, Basair-e-Hakimul Ummat, Al-Takashuf, Bawadir, and many other books that are indispensable for a serious saalik. They carry most of the biographies written about the Deobandi akabir. Their prices are not that bad either. The only other online store that comes nearest is Albalagh but they still fall short of some of the gems that Madania have. Next up on my list is Hazrat Thanvi's ra tafseer 'Bayan-ul-Quran' insha'Allah.

If you ever happen to be in Buffalo -- just visit the bookstore. It's humungous. It's like a library.

I heard it's better than going to Karachi to buy books. All the top class books in one place. Subhanallah.

Everyone keeps talking about how reasonable the prices are at the Madania bookstore.... The bookstore charges the exact price that one would pay in Pakistan. They don't make any profits. On the contrary, they sometimes lose money due to shipping costs, i.e., shipping form Pakistan.

100% correct now time for some history of the bookstore...
The Bookstore used to be located in the Juvi building, then it was moved to the boys building after the boys moved to juvi. The bookstore is currently located on the old cafetaria and musallah. Brings back memories *sniff sniff*

But unfortuanatly they don't accept PayPal as a payment method. Would a local brother be ready to buy some books on the spot and send them to me (Germany)? I would pay you through PayPal.
