brother Hiso I'm not a sufi shaykh nor well versed in this field. If you have a shaykh then ask the respected shaykh the question. Inshallah maybe one of the knowledgeable brothers can help you.

Kindly see in this page how nonchalant Hakim Ajmeri Sahab (DB) is about activation of lata-if.

And if I put similar questions to my Shaikh the answer is that your responsibility is to avoid sins and indulge in obedience.

In summary we should not pursue the exotica of Tasawwuf and focus on Shariah.

i would consider the activation of latifa with the blessed name of Allah (s.w.t) as a blessing, as i assume it will remove my ghaflat and help me in obeying the commandments of shairah. (i dont know much in depth about what happens after activation... but just thinking that we will always be in rememberance of Allah (s.w.t) involuntarily).... This is what i assume as khalwat dar anjuman..

The mere activation is definitely not enough to reach the state of "solitude among the crowd", rather it is one of many means that contributes to getting there. The reason why most turuq prescribe khalwa proper is because they understand that the human being must first give up the association with, and attachment to human beings to truly fill one's heart with Allah Ta´ala, and be preoccupied with nothing save Him Ta´ala. Once you come out of the khalwa, the struggle begins to remain in this state, which you will fail to do initially, so you will have to go back into khalwa regularly until you reach such a level. Let us not fool ourselves, the vast majority do not reach this level, where you are occupying not just your heart, but your entire being with Allah Ta'ala alone, undisturbed by the people and environment, although you are physically amongst them. A part from being a blessing from Allah, most people also need to struggle (and I really mean struggle) to reach anywhere near the true soltitude among the crowd.

The Romans and Chinese In decorating
Once some chinese told a king : "we are very well known for our ability to decorate and adorn buildings". then some Romans said : " we are able to produce more splendid decorations and adornments". thereupon the king said: "All right, we shall test your abilities to see who is best".

"The Romans and the Chinese came before the king,
While the Romans were noted for being more knowledgeable"

Then the Chinese told the king: "Give us a house so that we may decorate it. let the house be hidden behind a curtain so that these Romans cannot copy or imitate our decorations". According to these conditions they started decorating the house in their own excellent manner.

Then the Romans said: "we shall prepare a decorated house of our own, just opposite the spot where the Chinese shall work, so that you may easily ascertain by comparing the two houses, as to whose work is better"

The Romans also started working behind a curtain in a secret way. however, they did not make any decorated paintings. They merely started cleaning and polishing the wall of the house untill in the end the wall of the house started shining like a mirror.

Then came the time of the test. the curtains were removed and the result was that the beautiful paintings and pictures in the house of the Chinese became reflected on the wall of the Romans so that their art appeared more beautiful. the King came along.

"He saw the decorations made by the chinese.
so beautiful were they that they drove the mind away.
Thereafter the King inspected the Roman's decorations
And was astonished at what he saw.
whatever the king saw on the other side, here appeared more beautiful.
so that through the efforts of decorating, the eyes were popping out of their sockets".

Maulana Rumi (rah) compared the work of the Romans to that done by the Saintly ones because these Saintly ones place great emphasis upon cleansing the heart and through the blessings of that , without studying books and revision, they become decorated with beautiful character.

"However, the saintly ones cleanse and polish their hearts profusely
whereby greed, stinginess and enimity is removed from it.

One Saint says :
Our law is to keep the heart like a mirror, clean and free of dust.
And our way is this, that to retain malice therein, is a major crime"

Lesson:

It was always the way of our elders to pay much attention to "Takhliyah" - to keep the heart free of the love of anyone other than Allah.
Thereafter it becomes easier to reform and rectify bad characteristics in one's self. This they placed before the acquisition of good characteristics.
Hence , they first inculcated the making of Zikr and by lighting the fire of Divine love, they caused all other entities to become burnt from the heart.

Thereafter it became easier to act upon every command of Allah and to discard all sinful activities. This is the easy and quick way to success."

Khalwat Dar anjuman is a mental phenomena,not physical,as Maripat rightly pointed out.Someone who wanted to migrate to Makkah from India asked Haji Imdad ullah ra for advise,the response was:"If your body is in India and your Qalb in Makkah,it is better than when your body is in Makkah,but your Qalb is in India".Obviously remembering Allah swt is a faculty of the Qalb,so for 'khalwat Dar Anjuman' the 'Yad' or consideration of Allah swt should be so strong as to overwhelm all other faculties,which needs practice....and more importantly....complete control over one,s thoughts.
Having said that,the technique in itself is simple.Some one asked 'Bhulle Shah ra' about the reality of tassawuf,his reply was in seraiki language,but it's translation is like this:"How shall I explain,but let me try,it is directing your thoughts from one place to another"- meaning from dunya to Akhera,from matter to abstract,from creatures to creator.
As Dr 76 pointed out,and I take some liberty to rephrase in my words,The Qalb is created from a special material,analogous to Arsh,it has the capacity to be polished with zikr,like a mirror,to reflect tajalli of the creator.Once it is polished,then it is made to take the habit of mushahida by constant contemplation.....and then a stage comes,that even if one wants to focus it on something other than Allah swt,it will not be possible.Gradually this state consolidates,leading to a type of FANA,where one can comprehend nothing but Allah.
A good example of such a state is awareness of our own 'self'.Every one of us is constantly aware of his self,without paying any deliberate attention to it.We do all the daily works,go to office,drive a car,eat,drink,gossip,but although we are clearly aware of 'self',we don,t pay any deliberate attention to our every single act performed by self.In other words,we have developed a constant 'yad-dasht' of our self.Something similar happens when we are immersed in YAD of Allah swt,we remember him all the time,but this does not stop us from any of our activities.If we are lucky enough to achieve this state,this is true 'Khalwat Dar anjuman'.
Zikre Qalbi alone,despite being a big blessing,does not mean yad dasht.As one brother pointed out,once zikre qalbi starts with practice,even if Nauoozobillah one loose his eeman,zikre qalbi may still continue ,what to say of a sin....?.Having said that,one must admit that Zikre qalbi is amongst one of the most potent tools to achieve the objective of real 'Yad Dasht'.

our dear Shaykh Naeem Abdul Wali also mentioned this yesterday in a lecture he had at the SeekersHub. I believe he quoted from the maktubat of imam Rabbani and the term used was khalwa fil jalwa which is the same thing as khalwat dar anjuman.

A letter by Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf-e-Thani to Mullah Hajji Muhammad Lahori:

The Ulama loving the world and being fond of it is like a black stain
on their beautiful faces. Though such men of knowledge are useful to
people, they are not useful to themselves. The honor of strengthening
the din and spreading the Shariat belongs to them, yet sometimes a
disbeliever or a fasiq also does this job. As a matter of fact, the
Master of Prophets "alaihi wa 'ala alihissalawatu wa ttaslimat'
indicated that evil people also will strengthen the din, saying,
"Allahu ta'ala certainly strengthens this din through fajir persons,
too." They are like flintstones. There is energy in a flint. Men start
fires with the power in this flint, thus making use of it. But the
flint itself does not gain an advantage. Likewise, these people do not
benefit from their own knowledge. In fact, their knowledge harms them.
For, on the Day of Judgement they will not be able to say, "We did not
know. If we had known that it was a sin we would not have done it."

It is declared in a hadith: "On the day of Judgement, the person who
will be tormented most is the Alim whom Allahu ta'ala did not enable
to benefit from his own knowledge." Certainly, knowledge, which Allahu
ta'ala esteems and which is honored above all, will be harmful to
those who make it a means for seizing property and rank, for coming to
the fore. In fact, being fond of the world is something which Allahu
ta'ala does not like at all. Therefore, it is a very loathsome deed to
spend knowledge, which Allahu ta'ala esteems, in a way which He
resents. It means to abhor what He esteems and to esteem, exalt what
He resents. To be clearer, it means to stand against Allahu ta'ala.
Giving lectures, preaching, issuing religious articles, books and
magazines are useful only when they are for Allah's sake, not for
gaining a rank, property and fame. And the symptom of such pious and
pure thought is not to be fond of the world. Those men of din who have
incurred this bane, who are fond of the world, are in fact worldly
men. These are the evil Ulama; these are the basest of people; these
are the thieves of faith and iman. However, they think of themselves
and represent themselves as men of din, as men of the next world, and
as the best of people. Surah Mujadala purports about them, "They think
of themselves as Muslims. They are liars. The devil has seized them.
They do not remember Allahu ta'ala, nor do they mention His name. They
have adapted themselves to the devil and have become devils. Be it
known that those who followed the devil suffered loss. Abandoning the
endless bliss, they threw themselves down into endless torment."

One of our superiors saw the devil sitting idly, not trying to deceive
people, and asked him why. The devil answered. "The evil Ulama of
today who pass for men of the din help me so much that there is no
need for me to do this important job." As a matter of fact, the recent
slackness in doing the commands of the Shariat and men's turning away
from the din are all because of the words said and articles written by
false religious men and because of these men's ill will.

Those Ulama of din who have not allowed their hearts to be seized by
the world and who are not ambitious about gaining property, rank, fame
or coming to the fore, are men of the Hereafter. They are the
inheritors, the representatives of Prophets "alaihimussalam". They are
the best of people. On the day of Last Judgement, their ink will be
weighed with the blood of martyrs, who gave their lives for the sake
of Allahu ta'ala, and the ink will weigh heavier. These are the people
who are praised in the hadith, "The Alim’s sleep is worship." These
are the people who understand the beauty of infinite blessings in the
next world, who see the ugliness, the evil of the world, and who know
that the next world is eternal but this world is transient and
exhaustible. For this reason, not looking at the things that are not
staying but changing and perishing, they hold fast to what is
permanent, to the beauties which do not deteriorate or perish.
Understanding the greatness of the next world is possible by seeing
the infinite greatness of Allahu ta'ala. And he who understands the
greatness of the next world does not care for the world. For, this
world and the next world are polar opposites. If you please one of
them, the other will become hurt. He who esteems the world offends the
next world. And he who dislikes the world has esteemed the next world.
It is impossible to esteem or abhor both of them. Two opposite things
cannot be put at the same place together.

Some great men of tasawwuf, after forgetting about themselves and the
world altogether, pretend to be worldly men for many reasons and
benefits. They are thought of as loving and demanding the world.
However, there is no worldly love or desire in them. As it is
purported in Surah Nur, "Their trading, buying and selling do not ever
prevent them from remembering Allahu ta'ala." They seem to be attached
to the world, but they have no such attachment. Khwaja Bahauddin-i
Naqshband Bukhari "quddisa sirruh" says, "At the bazzar of Mina in
Mecca, a young merchant was purchasing some goods which were worth
about fifty thousand gold coins. At the same time, his heart did not
forget about Allahu ta'ala even for a moment."

Literally Kaleja means Liver so is jigar..
but as a metaphor often expressed when speaking about feats of courage.. like mian jigar ki baat hai..

so here my bro it means that to contain the Tajalli of Allah http://discussworldissues.com/forums...lies/taala.gif befits only the courage of the heart.. whereas we know that Mount Toor couldnt withstand and got burnt..
