Hizb ut-Tahrir Inspired Coup Foiled in Bangladesh

I know what you’re saying, “Sheikh” Hassina, so how moderate can the government be? But in this case Sheikh is a name, not a title. And it’s a she.

So, now you know one of the reasons the allegedly “moderate” Hisb ut-Tahrir wanted her gone:Up to sixteen serving and retired army officers with “extreme religious views”, with the backing of supporters overseas, were planning to overthrow the government of Sheikh Hasina. The “oversees forces” are alleged to be the former leader of the now banned Bangladeshi Hizb ut-Tahrir party.

And the way the plot was allegedly instigated? Through the internet.

There’s a facebook page here dedicated to bringing about the coup, and a WordPress blog here. Appparently, Hizb ut-Tahrir printed out flyers based on the allegations on those two web pages and distributed them around hoping to instigate support for the coup.

How do you say FAIL in Bengali?

A conveient pretext to impose repressive laws on the Islamic minded people in Bangladesh ??

Or , anything else ?
