Does anyone know if McDonalds, Hardees, KFC, etc. are halal in Saudi Arabia? What about Kudu? What about other regular restaurants such as those found along the main highways (SASCO?)? I know that many Saudi restaurants serve haram food that is imported from Brazil or some other non-Muslim country since that is what is made available to the people by the government. |

The meat available in these stores cannot be termed as haram outright. At the most they are considered as doubtful? |

If the sources are from Brazil, then they are haram outright. I have looked into the issue of halal meat from Brazil for a long time now and have only found ulama saying that it is haram. At worst, they are machine slaughtered and thus haram. At best they are hand slaughtered...but by a Christian. |

You've done your research- Brazil & Argentina are the main suppliers to many of the fast food outlets around the middle east, and it is being labelled as Halal under the pretext that it has been slaughtered by 'people of the book'.... This in turn raises doubt, which basically means it's a no go... It's a very very sad state of affairs that you have had to ask this question, in my opinion. |

I used to live in Saudi before and back then, there were a lot of butcher shops. What I've heard is that a lot, if not all, of the butcher shops have had live chickens removed from them due to a government mandate and this was even before the H5N1 bird flu pandemic. Before, you'd go to a butcher shop, the butcher would pick the chicken from the cages and then slaughter it in front of you. |

When I was in Madinah in 2009, I met some brothers who had asked the manager at Hardees or KFC fast food joint if their meat came from Brazil. The manager went crazy at him, (I was there). The manager went to the back of the shop and pulled out some frozen burgers and he said to the brother, "Look, it says Halal, slaughtered and packed in Jeddah". Then brother said Jazakallah, I will have meal number.....

:bismi:
This issue of halal is left to the apparent and explicit such that a company which formally and explicitly advertises its food as halal and a legitimate Muslim government office formally and specifically sanctions it as halal then it is reasonable for the believer to expect it to be halal until proven otherwise. This is similar to how the Prophet (saaw) addressed the matter. And Allah knows best. |
