AOA
I have heard you still get people that say we are from the sacred family tree of the prophet S.A.W But sometimes I get the feeling some members make this up just to BIG themselves up. I would love to hear from Sayed-Sunni UK muslim brother and sisters just to see if there are any in the UK? Jzk |

hi
i dont know from proof but my family are known as syeds, i have known this since a kid, but not really seen it as a big thing, i mean i hardly know much about islam and only got into it not long ago. i don't think we syeds are big headed at all, maybe there are some who are but i certainly don't know of any. I do understand there's alot of traditional values and rules that are taken by syeds that show a difference, a line between syeds and non-syeds. But i was in a sufi shiekhs talk once and a speaker mentioned, when a syed does good he gains double the reward compared to a non-syed and when a syed does bad he again is given double the sin, this is all due to his holy blood link being another part of him. I myself do not know where these traditions have come from, but i don't see myself any different from anyone. Im not sure if this is what you mean by bigging themselvs up? Did you mean by the values and traditional status (some would call backwards lol) they give themselves or are we talking about how individual syeds portray themselves as and how they seem to judge others from a non syed line? thanks justmuslim786 |

Salam 'Aleykum,
I read in a prophetic Hadith: (1) ثلاث لا يزلن في أمتي حتى تقوم الساعة : النياحة والمفاخرة في الأنساب والأنواء Anas ibn Malik (ra) said: The Prophet SAWS said: Three of the signs of ignorance(Jahiliyyah) will remain in my nation until the day of judgement: Wailing over the dead, boasting about lineage and attributing the fall of rain and the coming of clouds to the stars. (2) While it is narrated by Abu Huraira (ra) that: the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) observed: Two (things) are found among men which are tantamount to unbelief: slandering one's lineage and lamentation on the dead. Abu Malik al-Asa'ari (ra) said: The Prophet SAWS said: Four signs of ignorance in my nation and they will not leave them, they are: boasting in pride about the lineage, slandering one's lineage, seeking rain from the stars and wailing over the dead. All three are Sahih. And if you wanted to see a family tree directly related to the Prophet SAWS here you go, (Some of the family members of this tree don't fear Allah though ![]() ![]() |
