Default Listing the Shuyukh of Tasawwuf in West
as salam o alaikum

Those looking for a Sheikh for the betterment of their deen feel lost when it comes to finding one. This is especially true in the West, especially USA.

They have to rely on questionable anecdotal experiences, wandering dervishes (whom they might never see again), inaccessible qutubs back-home and flashy presentation on the internet. Sometimes these experiences are not healthy and result in dissatisfaction with Tasawwuf overall.

For these reasons it will be extremely beneficial if there can be a database of local Shuyukh online.

I suggest the following format:

Name:
Khalifa/Deputy of:
Silsila:
Location:
Contact information:
Preferred language of communication:

I will encourage brothers and sisters to report such individuals, as usually they are humble, shy of Allah SWT and do not want to go around announcing their status as a Sheikh/mujaz etc.

To the Shuyukh who may visit the forum I remind that they should give this information with an intention of providing assistance to someone in need as per the orders of their own Sheikh. Similar to a Doctor announcing such in a yellow pages.

Please, limit this list to those that follow the Deobandi fiqhi stance.

First to mention in this series is,

Name: Mawlana Ahmad Sadiq Metir sahibdb
Khalifa/Deputy of: Hazrat Mawlana Maseehullah Khan ra
Silsila: Ashrafiya
Location: Northern California, USA
Contact information:N/A

Name: Mawlana Mohammad Yaqoob Ayubdb
Khalifa/Deputy of: Hazrat Nawab Eshrat Ali Khan Qaiser db
Silsila: Ashrafiya
Location: Yun Cun Ping, China
Contact information:N/A

Assalam Allaikum,

Brilliant idea akhi Abdlashay! I would relate one thing from my personal experience that in order to gain consistency 'istiqamah' in 'amaal' and deen, it is absolutely vital to stay in touch with the Shaykh. The best is to spend time in the company. There is no substitute for that. That's why its important to consider how easily the Shaykh is accessible i.e., where he resides. I think it should be a must for someone who wants to get bayat initially to spend time in Shaykh's company to acquire benefit from his company. However, if that's not possible due to one's situation, phone or e-mail can be helpful too. Otherwise, its easy to fall prey to nafs and shaytaan and regress to earlier habits. I made the mistake of getting bayat with a Shaykh that I couldn't spend time with and regressed after a few weeks. I got so depressed that I gave up on my initial practices. Alhamdollilah, I am trying to get back on track by self-motivation and reading books by Hakeemul Ummah rahimullah. His books have magical effect, masha'Allah. Please make dua for me.

, I didn't know Maulana was a khalifa of Maulana Maseehullah Khan.

I believe (if we're talking about the same person) he's in Southern California in the Los Angeles area rather than Northern California.

Possibly.. but I think a more likely reason is that deobandis are considered to be "sober sufis," so if one is in a deobandi tariqah, he does not have to worry about bid'ahs, musical instruments, inappropriate contact with opposite sex, etc.

So are the rest of Sufis for the most part "drunk sufis"? What about the Sufis that were not from Deobandi silsilas prior to the akabir? It's a very relative statement, and since people from all over the world post on here, everyone should be able to share the names of their teachers in tasawwuf.

Salaam 'alaikum,
Granted. I raised the question because I don't understand what a Shaykh's madhhab in fiqh has to do with the authenticity/effectiveness of his spiritual guidence. Maybe I'm missing something.

You can add the fact that one's shaykh is Deobandi in the description. Other than that, everyone is free to post.

I personally want a directory of all the Shuyukh in the West. That's an enormous resource.
