The Prophet (saw) (on the authority of Abu Hurayrah) is reported to have said:
“The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, while there is good in both.” The Prophet is also reported to have said: “Teach your children swimming, archery and horse-riding.” The Prophet is reported to have said: “And your body also has a right over you.” |

42? lol I had to re-read that, MaashaAllah may Allah s.w.t make you live for another 42 + more years amiin
Great thread Colonel..props. Why is it really easy to follow and become obsessed with certain sunnahs as if they are the only sunnahs that exist but yet its difficult to eat healthily in moderation and banish laziness from our lives? |

Salam Alaykum,
From my limited knowledge, in the past, being fat was a sign that you were rich. The reason being that most people could not afford to eat enough, so if you had the means, then you would eat as much as possible. Of course, this is quite different than the case today, when the poorer people are the ones who may get fat, while the rich try to buy expensive foods to stay healthy and slim. |

I guess it's just common sense to eat healthy and not over-eat.
Apparently, during the time of Rasulullah (saws), fat women were considered attractive. Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 62, Number 162: Narrated Um Salama: that while the Prophet was with her, there was an effeminate man in the house. The effeminate man said to Um Salama's brother, 'Abdullah bin Abi Umaiyya, "If Allah should make you conquer Ta'if tomorrow, I recommend that you take the daughter of Ghailan (in marriage) for (she is so fat) that she shows four folds of flesh when facing you and eight when she turns her back." Thereupon the Prophet said (to us), "This (effeminate man) should not enter upon you (anymore)." |

When i first heard about this from some gay Muslim guy on the net, I thought it was a lie.He actually said there were queers in Prophet Muhammed's pbuh house..
Were there queers amongst Prophet Muhammed pbuh Muslim community?? What about those ahadeeth that say that 'homosexuality' was unheard of amongst the Arabs of that time? sorry for digressing..but I just HAD to ask. |

Wa Alaikum As Salaam, If I remember correctly, the hadeeth in arabic mentions the word 'mukhannath' which means hermaphrodite. correction : the word in the hadeeth i just checked is mukhannith, which could have both meanings, more inclination towards the hermaphrodite. I will inshAllah check further as well.. |

Wa Alaikum As Salaam, Rasulullah (saws) considered this person to be from the غير اولي الاربة من الرجال (Surah Noor) - male attendants who lack vigour - but it turned out that he was well aware of everything and so was kicked out. |

Any progress on this issue? Also I have another question ,Isn't it haraam to look like the other sex? There is a hadeeth about it too...then how comes effeminate men existed at all at that time since it was haraam to imitate the other gender? |
