Illegitimate child possibly :(

Salaam alaikom.

I am a young convert to Islam living in the Middle East. I made the mistake of Zina (I know it was wrong)... I am worried I could possibly be pregnant http://discussworldissues.com/forums...n_confused.gif

& I have heard 2 things when it comes to illegitimate children in Islam: They have to take the mother's name no matter what and cannot be attributed to the father at all -or- If the man she committed Zina with marries her to hide their sin early in the pregnancy, then the child can be attributed to the father. Which one of these is right?

Also, Would it be permissible for me to give up the child for his family/him to raise?

thnx

If you got married, the child can be attributed to the husband in order to hide the sin

And Allah http://discussworldissues.com/forums...lies/taala.gif knows best

No one knows the details of situation but you sister,so seek counsel from someone in person who you can fully explain the situation to and ask questions, respond, etc.

Brother Ahmad is of course also correct.

Salaam, I had thought about that but I don't think this is a risk I want to take. I am afraid of what will happen if I were to speak to someone and they were to inform the authorities. http://discussworldissues.com/forums...s/icon_sad.gif

Jazakallah khair. Is there a time in which this is permissible until? I heard it was as long as the child is born at least 6 months after the marriage.. Is that correct?

There is no such time limit as such coz when ever u get married, the person remains the same, i.e. the father, but, the sooner the better. If he is intending to marry you, then you need to hurry.

wsalam wr wb........ sister there are two major things associated with your querry
1. the possibility of your marriage to that guy as soon as possible
2. the doubt you are having about your pregnancy....

now as far as the first part goes, you may marry asap if the whole issue is sorted out between you and the guy.... i will be more focused on the second part (as that is my area of study). every act of intercourse doesn't lead to pregnancy, you may need to confirm it asap and then if the test comes positive then there are two options
1. you getting married to that guy asap
2. or if he doesn't agree to marry you then you will have to bring up the child on your own... refer to the fatwa below by hadhrat muhti ibrahim desai db....

First: do sincere tawbah (ask for repentance from Allah). Pray two rakah nafil and beg Allah to forgive you and give you the strength for whatever is lying ahead of you. Ask him not to make you pregnant (as Allah can give and take as he chooses).

Second: establish whether you are pregnant or not. Buy a pregnancy test, most detect pregnancy within the 1st week. Go and get a blood test done if necessary (you don't need to tell anyone you are not married). Blood test is a 100% accurate, though most pregnancy tests are 99.9% too.

If you are pregnant, then worry about the third stage.

From what I understand, most pregnancy tests (home use) aren't over 50% accurate after one week of fertilisation... it can normally take a month for an accurate reading. Hence, in the meantime, I think the sister should approach the potential father with the information that she may be pregnant and see whether he will marry her. She can then wait to see whether she is pregnant or not and go from there
