lol clowns are just scary!

another thing in our community is that whilst we are willing to dish out £9000 a year for a university degree, when madrassahs charge for deeni education everyone kicks up a fuss!

From the roll of the eyes - there are two possible deductions:

> You are THE person. In that case, I am going to give you a call soon inshaAllah. Haven't chatted in a while.
> You think I am the person - Let me clear doubts and say it's not me. I did say I am working in the finance sector.

Based on the data available, I believe the latter to be more likely

If a medical or engineering book falls on the street and get dirt , nobody cares. But , if a Quran falls on the street and get dirty,
what will you do then ? Ignore ??

Isn't it an insult to Islam if the Islamic scholars ( madarasah-graduates ) work as taxi-drivers ??????

Let's call a spade a spade.

What do you consider to be a decent salary? When answering, please be more specific than simply saying that they shouldn't have to work as taxi-drivers.
Anyone care to take a stab at this question of mine?

If a Islamic scholar ( madarasah-graduates ) has no problem to be a Passenger then why it will be a problem if Islamic scholar ( madarasah-graduates ) be a Driver?
BTW, earning money by Driving is halah way, is there any problem?

How much time is required to get a driving license ? maximum 6 months ?

How much time , money and resources are used to make an Islamic scholar ?

The main issue of this thread is the dignity of an Islamic scholar as well as the proper utilization of a talent.
May be, the thread title should be " How does a secular society treat an Islamic scholar ? taxi-driver = Islamic scholar ? "

:..
yes..islamic scholars should be given preference and highly paid, respected, recognised and honored...

...and honored these Islamic scholars by paying them high salaries...Hope they fear Allah!

...
But what kind of lifestyle should these Ulema be capable of funding? If you say a "decent" one, please define "decent" in some way that is more specific than simply saying that they ought to not have to drive taxis to supplement or make an income.

This reminds me of the concern that Umar (ra) had when Rasoolullah was lying on the floor.

Even if in Islamic point of view there is nothing wrong with driving a taxi, I think the concern of our brothers here arise from genuine love for the Ulema. It would be better if the Ulema had better income so that they can spend more time in spreading knowledge. May Allah protect our Ulema and give them barakah in every aspect of their lives. Ameen.

Agreed.

If Mawlana ( madrasah-graduate) says it's permissible for a Muslim to do taxi-driving, then it's also permissible for Mawlana ( madrasah-graduate) to do taxi-driving!. Effort for Halal income isn't insulting.

Salaam Bro

And this is exactly where my "different perspective" comes in. In the UK (specially in London), if you want a "decent" income (which is still undefined on this thread), you need to be working long hours and be ready to mix in a non-halaal environment. It is much easier for a Talib ul Ilm or a "Mawlana" to continue seeking knowledge, praying in jamaa'ah, giving da'wah, protecting himself from a potentially haraam environment if they are not in such a job. Driving a taxi may actually prove to be more flexible!

Of course, there are some alternatives:
> Ulaama working in masaajid should be better paid. The trustees should go into such an arrangement.
> A central pool is created which Tullab ul Ilm can apply to if they are facing hardship. There could be a "London" pool for example.
> Having your own business (which has been the way forward since the beginning of time)

And if what we are concerned is "Income" as opposed to "Perceptions" - then driving a black cab can get you £50,000 p.a. no taxes - is that good or what?!

Wassalam
