i always though taxi divers are so cool. im not kiddin, they have such a nice, peaceful and decent job. especially if you like driving... i think i would have become either a taxi driver or a clown if i was a guy! another thing in our community is that whilst we are willing to dish out £9000 a year for a university degree, when madrassahs charge for deeni education everyone kicks up a fuss! |

> You are THE person. In that case, I am going to give you a call soon inshaAllah. Haven't chatted in a while. > You think I am the person - Let me clear doubts and say it's not me. I did say I am working in the finance sector. Based on the data available, I believe the latter to be more likely Sherlock Holmes Zindabaad! |

what will you do then ? Ignore ?? Isn't it an insult to Islam if the Islamic scholars ( madarasah-graduates ) work as taxi-drivers ?????? Let's call a spade a spade. |

... If a Islamic scholar ( madarasah-graduates ) has no problem to be a Passenger then why it will be a problem if Islamic scholar ( madarasah-graduates ) be a Driver? BTW, earning money by Driving is halah way, is there any problem? |

How much time , money and resources are used to make an Islamic scholar ? The main issue of this thread is the dignity of an Islamic scholar as well as the proper utilization of a talent. May be, the thread title should be " How does a secular society treat an Islamic scholar ? taxi-driver = Islamic scholar ? " |

This reminds me of the concern that Umar (ra) had when Rasoolullah was lying on the floor. Even if in Islamic point of view there is nothing wrong with driving a taxi, I think the concern of our brothers here arise from genuine love for the Ulema. It would be better if the Ulema had better income so that they can spend more time in spreading knowledge. May Allah protect our Ulema and give them barakah in every aspect of their lives. Ameen. |

And this is exactly where my "different perspective" comes in. In the UK (specially in London), if you want a "decent" income (which is still undefined on this thread), you need to be working long hours and be ready to mix in a non-halaal environment. It is much easier for a Talib ul Ilm or a "Mawlana" to continue seeking knowledge, praying in jamaa'ah, giving da'wah, protecting himself from a potentially haraam environment if they are not in such a job. Driving a taxi may actually prove to be more flexible! Of course, there are some alternatives: > Ulaama working in masaajid should be better paid. The trustees should go into such an arrangement. > A central pool is created which Tullab ul Ilm can apply to if they are facing hardship. There could be a "London" pool for example. > Having your own business (which has been the way forward since the beginning of time) And if what we are concerned is "Income" as opposed to "Perceptions" - then driving a black cab can get you £50,000 p.a. no taxes - is that good or what?! Wassalam |

Whats wrong with me? i just dont get it!! do ppl really see driving a taxi as something derogatory? if yes - why? lotsa ppl like driving & prefer driving to sitting in an office or teaching ect. and its a perfectly halaal, honest and good way of earning a living. so.....? did any1 here ask the moulana why he drives a taxi?
