Default Khair or bid'a?
Assalaamu Alaykum WRWB

I hope you're all doing well iA.

There's this wonderful sister I know who, masha Allah, is so sincere and just really good-hearted..really she's so special. Her salah is beautiful masha Allah except for 1 thing which i think might be bid'a. After every maghrib and fajar prayer, she'll do her athkaar according to thesunnah but then she'll finish by prostrating her head and reciting the 99 names of Allah SWT after which she proceeds to make a lengthy supplication.

Since the Prophet SAW didn't do this, would that make it bid'a?

Plz provide your answers with daleel

Thank you for ur help
wasalaamu alaykum wrwb

First define biddah. Then answer is easy!
Does she consider this to be wajib or sunnah or this her preference to do things which she may find to be beneficial.
If one consider any extra thing to be wajib or sunnah then it is biddah. Is her action contray to shariah! from the sound of things she is not violating anything or even encouraging others to follow her example. Perhaps you can encourage her to do extra 2 rakah nawafil (salatul Awabin) salat after 7 rakah maghrib salat 3 fard, 2 sunnah 2 Nawafil. This way she will get alot more reward. Similarly she can perform extra 2 rakah after 20 minutes of sunrise . 2 rakah during dhurur time and 2 rakah after Isha salaat.

Thanks a lot. I prety sure she prays all those raka'at masha Allah but I'll let her know anyways iA. when I first asked her about it, she reluctantly told me she does it because we're closest to Allah SWT in prostration and that she recites the names of Allah SWT out of politeness to Allah SWT.
May Allah SWT love her very much. Amin

So i suppose that wouldnt make it bi'da correct since she just likes to do it?

In Fatawa Hindiyya the above is mentioned as an innovation. Mufti Zarwali strongly condemns it.

Salam Aleykum,

Apparently I say it is not an innovation, Nomadic gave the correct answer.

Out of curiosity what is the source of this practice?

I think its just her own amal , seems like she is not propagating it as a sunnah, wajib , and she does not ask people to do it, it seems she finds more khusho and spiritual kayfiat in Sajda, so i guess she does it. If this is the matter then let her do it. WallahuAlam.

I think it’s just something she came up with herself otherwise she would’ve certainly told me.

Fatwah Hindiay is compilation of fatwa and is highly regarded. However one has to read it in the context i.e something becomming a widly practiced and gaining acceptability amoung the mass and laymen giving the status of something recommended / thinking it is sunnah, wajib etc.

Thanks a lot Nomadic and all otjhers

So conclusion: as long as we know its not wajib or sunnah and were not propagating it, its not bid'a to do sth the Prophet SAW didn't do in his 'ibadah for the sake of deepening our connection with Allah SWT.

Khair insha Allah. hopefully this is the correct opinion.

In addition,

Allah in the Qur'an tells us to make Zikr abundantly. So it means you can do whenever you want, as much as you can. Zikr doesn't have to be found in the hadith in its exactness.

Ameen Ya Rabb. I've never met anyone like her subhan Allah ta'ala. It's especially the little things she does that are heart-melting like not letting go of a persons hand during a handshake until the other person lets go first and they way she covers up others faults at her own expense and her beautiful humility and her friendliness to strangers and and and... she's just overflowing with piety masha Allah tabarak Allah.

Alright then, I guess there's no need to bring it up with her.

May Allah SWT grant her His deeply affectionate love Amin!Amin Amin!!! and please everyone do say Amin too!!!!

I think she gets her akhlaq partly from her parents and the rest from her own striving to improve herself.
