actually its not anything wrong to do miswaak in public. we don't need to worry about what image the kuffaar are getting of us, unless its really something bad. whatever there is scope for in the shariah, its fine. they (the kuffaar) are not ashamed of the many shameless things they do in public i.e walking around half naked, getting drunk and doing the most disgusting and heinous deeds all over the place, so why must we muslims be ashamed of doing a great sunnah (miswaak) in public? ![]() |

Assalamu alaykum ![]() who said the Prophet ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Adopt a moderate course : The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately. . .Always adopt a middle, moderate, regular course, whereby you will reach your target (of paradise)." - Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Hadith 470 Be Moderate in your religious deed: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The good deeds of any person will not make him enter Paradise (i.e., no one enters paradise only through his good deeds)." The Prophet's companions asked: "Not even you?" The Prophet replied: "Not even myself, unless God bestows His favor and mercy on me. So be moderate in your religious deeds and do what is within your ability. None of you should wish for death, for if he is a doer of good, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil doer, he may repent to God." - Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Hadith 577 Moderation in all things The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once asked a companion: "(Is it true) that you fast all day and stand in prayer all night?" The companion replied that the report was indeed true. The Prophet then said: "Do not do that! Observe the fast sometimes and also leave (it) at other times. Stand up for prayer at night and also sleep at night. Your body has a right over you, your eyes have a right over you and your wife has a right over you." - Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Hadith 127 If what I was saying is wrong, kindly show the right way and I stand corrected. ![]() |

Assalamu alaykum ![]() you should read the replied I responded to to know the context. Let me get the context for you; Originally Posted by mmb786 http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...548#post693548 actually its not anything wrong to do miswaak in public. we don't need to worry about what image the kuffaar are getting of us, unless its really something bad. whatever there is scope for in the shariah, its fine. they (the kuffaar) are not ashamed of the many shameless things they do in public i.e walking around half naked, getting drunk and doing the most disgusting and heinous deeds all over the place, so why must we muslims be ashamed of doing a great sunnah (miswaak) in public? Allahu A'alam. Then I responded that "sis, moderation is the keyword. Otherwise we would have read the companions publicly and constantly doing miswaak anywhere and at anytime" coz moderation is adviced upon us by the Prophet ![]() "I have seen some brothers use the miswak in public, e.g. in college or work. Why do people do this? It's bad akhlaq and makes us look bad. Imagine if someone brushed their teeth in public." as posted by brother jive http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...l=1#post693473. Hence, the moderation was a reply to "I have seen some brothers use the miswak in public, e.g. in college or work" and public places. Doing miswaak before taking wudhu' is definitely not 'doing it in public places'. Brother ahamed_sharif, you have to read the post in its context and its continuity and don't just jump around without reading the whole of it otherwise you can easily misunderstood the points posted. ![]() |

I need to explain where I am coming from.
Today this brother walked into the college library dressed like a khaleeji and then sat down in front of all the people and took out his miwak and brushed his teeth in a very overt manner. He was leaning back and it looked like he was making a show of it. You get these brothers who are not always from the best of backgrounds and they do kinda spoil things for us, the ex-gangsta types. |

Assalamu alaykum ![]() you sure about that? some barelwi elders chew paan while giving talks and then openly in front of the congregation while sat on the mimbar they let out a long mouthful of red, yucky, disgusting spit into a container in front of everyone to see. i have seen this with my own eyes. even thinking about it makes me cringe! |

what about the guys who do miswaak while walking to the masjid and then just before entering the masjid grounds they spit out a gobful of saliva created by using the miswaak. then the miswaak goes straight into the top pocket without being washed and is covered in saliva and causes discomfort to others because of the stink.
