You should not shave; now everything is not black and white and no one here can give you a fatwa that is for you. For that you should consult a local scholar. If you are hanafi, you should leave atleast a fist length beard, though some ulama say it can be shorter than this, or left longer aswell, but no one to my knowledge says you should shave unless there is some reason (like illness, or being in a very hostile, dangerous society, etc). But you will need to consult a scholar.

Personally, I think large full beards look ugly. A stubble or chin strip with soul patch suits me. Go with what you think suits you best.

Honestly, it depends on which madhab you folllow. In the Maliki madhab, the beard is sunnah mukhaddah and hence it's highly recommended, but not required. You'll find pious Maliki sheikhs who either don't have a beard or have a goatee-mustache combination. So, really it's not a unanimous thing, is all I'm saying...

Yes I agree with you, the issue is not as clear cut as some would like to make it, as with many things. As the brother says he is following the hanafiyya, the beard is held to be very important.

To myself and everyone else:
One thing we can all agree on is that to have kibr is completely haram. So before this thread that is by all intents and purposes finished, turns into a beard battle ground, let us worry about clear cut issues and spend our time on them, rather than such topics that scholars have ikhtilaaf on. Our time is worth more. Just my advice to myself.

In the prophets days lot of things were different , so were in Adams days , and vice versa.

Yes a beard is "manly" like a lions mane and all , its nice when its a groomed thick strong looking beard , really makes a person stand out and can sometimes tell about a persons personality just by the beard.

Back in the days they wore robes , and beards and all sorts of things. None of this is a MUST and in the Quran it is not haram if you don't wear a beard or white dresses .

As long as you have a NEAT look to you and beauty then thats fine. Ofcourse Sunnah is always great but why use miswak when you got a nice toothbrush and toothpaste?

I am not saying dont follow because we are in a modern time , I am saying we have options and its okay not to have a beard with red henna on it or miswak or leather socks and all that stuff. =S


Islam should be from the heart so much light should fill the heart that it would make a glow on the face , at that point a beard will be grown automatically but my point again is that the heart is where Islam is and neat dressed muslim is fine. Muhammad s.a.w loved beauty so if you are beautifull without a beard then be it =) Islam should be from our speech , from our actions, THATS where it is the strongest and most noted, even a smile is charity =)

Allah made us human , we as humans get haircuts , trim , cut nails and so on , so a short beard or no beard is no problem guys but if you wanna grow a beard because the prophet (s.a.w) did then why not dye it too and buy a miswak right after if you wanna follow all sunnahs. Islam does not discriminate people of different color so people should not be looked down on when they have no beards.

Sometimes at masjids I get Tabeeligh jaamaatis dissing me because I got no beard... like wow... the prophet S.a.w never made anyone feel like **** and diss them in public, instead he explained with love. Salam.

The Prophet (SAW) said to grow your beard and trim the mustache, follow the Prophet not some madhab, show me one hadith just one were the Prophet (SAW) tells you its ok to shave the beard.

brother, do you agree that if we were commanded to grow the beard by Allah then we grow it regardless of our oppinions and thoughts and feelings?

Yes brother, people who love our beloved prophet use miswak even though they have whitening toothpastes and electronic toothbrushes, they sleep on a rug on the floors even though they can afford a memory foam bed mattress, they wear sunnah libas even though they can get the best tuxedos, they keep beards and dye them red even though they can completely shave it to conform to the ideas of 'modernism' dictated by the west. They do all this and they smile, do charity, donate to somalia and do everything you can possibly imagine to help, and all this just because they love our beloved prophet so much. When you love someone so much there really is no room for excuses.

If it was such a minor thing as you say, Rasoolullah would never have mentioned the issue of the beard. Instead, he mentioned it over and over again and the sahaba followed and obeyed. 'Umar rejected accepting testimony from someone who shaved. Shaving is a sign of fisq and rebellion in Islam.

If you're talking about culture, then why would Rasoolullah mention the importance of the beard at all if it was mere culture? Why did he COMMAND Muslims to trim the moustache and lengthen the beard? Rasoolullah did not promote Arab culture but he promoted the commandments of Allah . If he said to lengthen the beard, then Allah has commanded us to lengthen the beard through the proxy of Rasoolullah . Trimming the beard, especially shaving, is going against the commandments of Allah and his Rasool .
